4/8/17 - Hill Farmstead tap room.
Poured from bottle into an oversized wine glass, sediment reserved.
A: Rather opaque bronze-orange color. About a finger of head, very rocky bubbles - presumably from carbon dioxide.
S: Characteristic green apple, white wine, a bit of lemon, and a very light amount of tartness/funk. Reminds me of Arthur a good deal, but with more vinous notes. Smells great!
T: Taste largely follows the nose. Green apple, vinous character, lemon. There is a touch of horse blanket. Blends nicely with the hints of oak from the barrel. The flavors are very well balanced.
F: Zero carbonation, as was the intent with bottling this still. It's an odd feeling when you're used to carbonation in most beers. Super easy drinking, but it just floated across the tongue with no zip. The person I shared this with said he prefers some carbonation and I don't disagree. The body was somewhere around medium and the mouth feel was rather soft and pillowy.
O: Certainly a treat. An interesting take without any carbonation, but certainly a great saison. Just happened to walk in at the right time and find someone willing to split the bottle. Burps for the next two hours were very tasty.
