After aging for more than 26 months in a bourbon barrel, we further conditioned the beer atop organic vanilla beans and Finca Alasitas Java coffee beans from Bolivia, sourced and roasted by The Coffee Collective in Copenhagen, Denmark. These friends long ago changed our worldview as to what coffee could be and continue to deeply influence us here at Hill Farmstead.

375ml bottle, dated January 10, 2018, poured into a Hill Farmstead etched Rona wine glass.
The beer pours a thick jet black color, thin finger of khaki head that has minimal retention that yields spots of oily lacing. The aroma is nice, very fruit forward coffee, berries, lightly tannic and full of stone fruits with vanilla, honey and a nice bourbon and chocolate character. The flavors are great, again, incredibly fruit forward coffee that offers lots of dark stone fruits, a light acidity and modest roast, rich grains and oaky bourbon that brings out the chocolate and vanilla. The mouthfeel is good, heavier medium body that is coating and smooth with a warm finish.
Verdict: A very nice expression of Birth of Tragedy from Hill Farmstead. The coffee is super unique and fruit forward and brings out the honey very nicely and plays well with the vanilla and is boosted by the nuanced layers of the barrel.
