This is a great New Zealand hop DIPA. The Motueka offers all the expected aromas but there is also a nice bitterness that compliments the aromas and that is a great sign of an IPA (whether hazy or not).

16oz can dated 9/5/23.

Pours hazy gold with an inch of white head. Moderate retention and lacing. Mint-rubbed melons with zesty undertones in the nose. Medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel. Spicy and earthy on the palate with minimal malt or bitterness. A bit peppery and piney. Finishes earthy and grassy.

This one pours a fairly hazy golden yellow, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like slightly funky lime, grassy hops, lemon rind, grapefruit pith, and juicy pineapple.

The various Double but single hop beers from Hill Farmstead are some of the best IPAs in the world, and this beer is no exception to that rule. It might not be quite as good as perhaps the best IPA ever, Double Galaxy, but it’s still extremely pleasant and very enjoyable. There’s lots of typical bracing tropical fruit and lime character I always get out of Motueka, with lemon, pineapple, and melon, with a light but present bitterness.

This is very light and pillowy for the style – not thin, but just drinks so easy for a DIPA.

I think, amongst this series, I’d rank them – Double Galaxy > Double Nelson > Double Motueka > Double Riwaka > Double Citra. All of them are great, though.

From a 750ml swing-top growler, filled at the brewery 03/01/23. Served in a spiegelau IPA glass.

Pours a cloudy dull orange with two-plus fingers of sturdy white foam. Retention is excellent, leaving a thick beaten egg white-like cap and fat wads of lacing.

Nose is sharp and citrusy. Aroma of sweet orange and lime. Clean and bracing, like an old-fashion aftershave.

Taste is unexpectedly but pleasantly balanced with bready malt and tart lime prominent. Tasting lime juice and bread roll, orange and lemon, more tart than sweet, with a vaporous note of something like thyme or another pungent, needle-y herb at the end.

Feel is bright and juicy with a medium body, ample, tingly carbonation and a clean, snappy mineral finish.

Overall, super-nice NEDIPA! I feel certain I’ve had IPA’s hopped with motueka before but I can’t remember ever tasting anything that expressed ‘lime’ so cleanly or emphatically before. And, as usual, either the well water or the water conditioning, whichever it is, makes a noticeable contribution.

Canned on 10/25/22; consumed on 11/25/22

Pours an opaque, dark orange body capped with a finger and a half of creamy, white foam; decent head retention yields a few chunky islands of cap, a large, frothy collar, and comprehensive spattering of spotty lacing dotted along the walls of the glass.

Aroma opens with fresh, grassy resins and hints of grapefruit, soon imparting vinous white grape into musty passionfruit over the middle, while green strawberry meets wet moss and a softening tinge of creamy mango on the back end of the bouquet.

Taste brings tangerine peel atop a firm, bready malt undertone, easing into lime colada and a musty grapefruit contrast before peaking with encroaching tones of composting mango.

Mouthfeel shows a medium body and moderate carbonation, inflecting a taut, creamy subtext lingering through flaky malt crispness interspersed across the palate; the back end welcomes hints of glossy resins, while the finish is clean, with minimal residual bitterness.

Relentlessly clean against an underripe, earthy subtext, this DIPA is softly grassy, direct to a point of near-impassivity while maintaining the quaint Hill subtleties which typically give the brewery's higher-tier IPAs further distinction.

16oz. Can served in a Spiegelau tulip. Pours a dull, hazy orange with a loose, quarter inch, off-white head and a hazy clarity. Head dissipates into a soapy slick that coalesces into a thin, tight band around the shoulders. Nose reveals hints of spice, citrus and rind. Taste consistent with nose, with the addition of some melon notes. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with an easy, even carbonation. Overall, lovely and quite drinkable.

Picked-up a four-pack of cans at Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro Bend, Vermont for twenty dollars. My eighteenth brew from these guys. Fine brew, just don't love the hop strain.
