In our ongoing endeavor to showcase fruits within the tapestry of our Farmstead® ales, we offer this new variant of her namesake beer. We selected a few wine barrels of Anna and conditioned the beer for more than two months on Montmorency cherries from Burtt's Orchard in Cabot, Vt. The result is a complex, elegant expression of the 2019 harvest.⁣

375 mL bottle. Pale reddish body. Smells of cherry and a little bandaid. Tastes of strong sour cherry. Sourness starts to build and eventually turns into bandaid. This is pretty rough.

This one pours a golden reddish color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells quite acidic, moreso than I'm used to with Hill Farmstead. I think that's the function of Montmorency cherries, which always just come across as super acidic to me. There's cherry flesh, lemon, and red wine.

This is too acidic for me to fully enjoy - easily one of the lesser HF beers that I've had so far. The very tart cherry buries the goodness of the base Anna underneath it. There's just stinging lemony and cherry acidity, and a very prickly funk. This might age into something else, but as of now, it's a bit unapproachable.

This is lighter bodied, prickly, and not super drinkable.

This is one of the more disappointing HF beers that I've had. It's just too sour and acidic.

Mildly foggy brick red with a short off-white head that quickly fizzles out to a thin ring and lily pad film.

This is far more acidic than most of Hill's saisons, especially Anna, but the offsetting funk is more noticeably appreciated here relative to the sour brown I'm having next to it (Side Project's Montmorency). At the same time, the cherry here is more classic, including that wonderful note of marzipan. The funk is barnyard hay and horse blanket, but mild, helping to accentuate notes of graham, either from the malt or the unique cherry, which also brings with it that beloved hint of cinnamon.

Thankfully, the acidity seems to diminish with time, allowing the medium body to smooth out and become a little thicker or rounder in feel. Still, it's crisp with a fine carbonation, finishing semi-dry with a hint of red wine in the exhale.
