Farmstead® India Pale Ale brewed and dry-hopped solely with Pacifica hops and conditioned in oak barrels.

Our ongoing Self-Reliance series of Farmstead® single-hop India pale ales provides a platform to explore the interplay between our Farmstead® ale yeast and various hops, including lesser-known or experimental varieties.

For this next iteration, we showcase hand-selected Pacifica hops from the 2019 harvest at Freestyle Farm—our agricultural partner in Upper Moutere, New Zealand. The subtle, lightly citrus hop character accentuates and enlivens the spritely, refined acidity.

750ml bottle, 2019 hop harvest, bottle dated Feb 6, 2020, poured into a Hill Farmstead stemmed tulip. Enjoyed on July 5, 2021, reviewed from tasting journal.

The beer has a hazy golden color, amber hues, foamy white head, one finger tall, moderate retention with spotted lacing. The aroma is nice, plenty of lemon and orange citrus, lightly floral, grassy, piney, and gets greener as it warms, but with sweet pale dough, earthy oak, funk, and mineral water. The flavors are nice, tart citrus, orange and grapefruit, light lemon, earthy funk, mineral water, wildflower, grassy, raw green hop, soft pine, pale sweet dough and chewy oak. The mouthfeel is good, coating, super smooth, nice medium body, lightly tart with a dry finish.

Verdict: A nice funky IPA, lots of tangy tropical citrus fruits, nice funkiness and soft barrel character. A nice entry in this lineup from Hill Farmstead.

Bottle: Poured a golden color ale with a nice large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light funky Brett notes with nice floral hoppy notes and light fruity notes. Taste is also a mix of light funky brett notes with some floral hoppy undertones and light fruity notes with some malt notes also mcing though. Body is about average with good carbonation. Well brewed and really enjoyable.

This one pours a golden hazy yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like lime, herbal spicy hops, white pepper, citrus, oak, and wine.

I continue to absolutely love this series. There's a distinct lime and pepper vibe to this one, and it really works for me. There's citrus, and a soft oaky finish.

This is just super drinkable and wonderful, with a soft but bright mouthfeel and overall vibe to this one.

This is certainly in the upper quarter of this series - I really enjoyed this one.
