Each harvest season, we choose various barrels of our Farmstead® ales that exhibit sympathetic characteristics for pairing with local fruit varieties. Regardless of the base beer, the ideal outcome remains the same: a thoughtful representation of the fruit in season. For this selection, a blend of Farmstead® ales that had aged in wine barrels for over a year was conditioned further atop organic plums from nearby Elmore Roots Nursery in Elmore, Vt.

One of the more successful in the Harvest series -- less tart and more fruit-forward in an elegant way.

This one pours a dark orange-ish color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like like very sour plum, with lemon, grapefruit, and white wine.

This is definitely not as Anna Plum or Flora Plum were, and is one of the lesser entries overall in the new fruited Harvest series. It's still nice, and has a very good wine barrel character, with lots of white wine, oak, and fruitiness, but the plum itself just comes across as very puckering, too much so. It's especially notable as Hill Farmstead trends soft and pleasantly sour, not acidic.

This is lighter bodied, very tart and very acidic, with a lot of barrel on the finish. It's definitely a slower sipper.

This was decent, but not the best from this brewery.

Pours a foamy bubbly small head with lower retention, mostly clear golden honey blond color

Nose holy cow funk, like a punch in the face at first, musty dank barnyard funk, cheesy arm pit funk, then fades a bit to tart acidic funk, sour lemony grassy wet hay, and big juicy sour plum

Taste is quite sour but good, tart funk, mild barnyard funk and cheesy, bright acidity, into juicy over ripe plums and sour plum, a little sour apricot and lemon, light bready malt with flemmy tart acidity finishing it

Mouth is med bod, lower carb, bright sour acidity and flemmy funk

Overall mixed, the funk and sour plum in general is great, but that barnyard arm pit funk on the nose is a turn off

Clear gold at first, a full pour adds a slight cloudiness that darkens the body to a peach-ish orange hue under its moderately short white foam head, which dies quickly to a bubbly collar that leaves a few fine arms of lace.

I thought this would be my favorite of the series, but Pear won me over this round. That said, this still features a wonderfully floral drupe tartness with a light marzipan and even anise sort of funk on the exhale. It's also not as sour as this season's Raspberry Harvest.

The medium-light body has a prickly effervescence before finishing paper dry and puckering but not too sour. As it warms, it continues to grow on me, as the acidity decreases while hints of cedar crop up.

375 mL bottle. Pours golden with a rosé hue. Smells of soft oak and vanilla with a little plum. Tastes of lots of plum. Lightly tart, oaky, some mineral notes, but mostly plum. Light body. Simple base beer with a pleasant plum flavor. Nice.
