Growler purchased from Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro Bend, VT.
This pours with slight carbonation, a dark black body, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like milk chocolate, port, caramel, dark roasted coffee, roasted malt, and silky bourbon.
It’s kind of absurd that this is basically six years old – there’s a touch of fruitiness that could *maybe* be oxidation, but it’s showing some strong steely reserve for how old it is. It’s got a real velvety character to it, with creamy chocolate, some vanilla, a hint of roastiness in its depths, and a nice sweet caramelly bourbon backbone.
This is medium bodied, not thick at all, but silky and creamy on the palate.
I was lucky to be able to snag one of these growlers, I’m not sure I’ll ever see it again.
