Each harvest season, we choose various barrels of our Farmstead® ales that exhibit sympathetic characteristics for pairing with local fruit varieties. On occasion, a single selection speaks to an ideal projection of a fruit’s seasonal expression; other times, fruits may mingle best with a curated selection of barrels. This blend was aged between 28 and 32 months in wine barrels and then conditioned further on a blend of Siberian pears and a few local varieties of desert pears—Stacy, Luscious, Summercrisp, and Nova—all organically grown by Elmore Roots Nursery in nearby Elmore, Vt. It is a delicate, expressive representation of Vermont’s summer and the annual autumn harvest.

Small draft pour at HF.
Presents clear straw yellow with a slight chill-haze.
Tart and a bit cidery with minimal pear character. Tart but not overly acidic. Light funk. Was expecting more Pear.

375ml bottle, dated February 10, 2022, poured into a stemless wine glass. Enjoyed on 12.19.2023, reviewed from Tasting Journal.
The beer pours a bright golden color, honey and straw hues, nice clarity with a bright white head that offers no retention nor lacing. The aroma is great, lots of earthy pear skin, juicy pear fruit, citrus, funk, oak, and mineral water. The flavors are nice, pear juice, tangy citrus, wildflower, vinous oak, soft funk, pale dough, and mineral water. The mouthfeel is good, coating, lively and tart with a nice medium body, crisp and dry finish.
Verdict: A nice pear forward saison from Hill Farmstead. Plenty of fruit, nice barrel character, very easy and refreshing.

Bottle. Rose colored peach color. White head.
Pretty sour, tart. Oaky with some funk. Pear is good. Pretty fruity. But I feel the sour dominates this beer.

Pours a fizzy white 1/2 finger head with fair retention, crystal clear light golden tan color
Nose souring bacteria funk, tart, a little Brett like barnyard funk, fair buttery oak, juicy tart pear and apple cider like
Taste quite sour, tart funk, bacteria souring, acetic acid, little Brett like barnyard funk, juicy pear but a little tart fleshy, apple cider notes, buttery mild vanilla oak, hint of white wine, drier slight flemmy finish
Mouth is med to lighter bod, higher effervescent carb
Overall nice, not as much pear as I expected but still delicious

Very solid beer, but a bit too tart for my liking.
