My first visit to von Trapp and what to my wondering eyes should appear on the menu?... A 10% abv dark rauchbier?!?... An easy choice and, damn!, how easy it went down... It was more in the eisbock category as far as rich, deep toasty malts; thick but sedately smooth... The smoke was potent, but was struggling to match the intensity of the malt... The booze was so supremely buried in the background, I can believe they lagered this for ages... Did I look for cans for takeaway?? I must have and they must not have had it... One of the managers sat at the bar after his shift and got a tall glass of it, and then a refill... That's how well made it was. And it had room to intensify... (2296)
