22oz bottle split between a pair of pint glasses. Fridge temp, 41 F or so. No bottle codes I can see, but it's probably a one-off. First half is very clear (that's the half I have), second is muddy brown. Lots of sediment.
Pours a pretty ruby color, but with little (almost no) head. Small amount of carbonation. Smell is strong, yeasty, maybe astringent, maybe licorice. I cannot specifically figure out what the smell is, but it's strong and familiar and not 100% positive. I definitely get some "red vines" licorice aroma. Now that I've put that name on it, it's all I can smell.
Taste is astringent, alcohol, slight cherry, some sourness.
Mouthfeel is slick, slightly oily. Overall, this is not a terrible beer, but it is not very good.

Poured into a Unibroue tulip glass. Pours a dark reddish amber with a half finger light tan head that dissipated slowly to a thin film and thick ring around the glass. Classic Belgian dark aroma of caramel malt, dark dried fruit, cloves. Flavor follows with sweet caramel malt, fresh and dried dark fruit, cloves, brown sugar. Starts mildly sweet, but finishes semi-dry with a mild bitterness from hops and spices. Medium body with slight creaminess. A nicely done domestic take on a Belgian strong dark ale. Somewhat less well balanced and with a dry maltiness in the finish, but ABV is well covered and a pleasure to drink.

A: Poured a browinish color with purple hues and a medium dirty white cap sits atop. The head fades before the first sip leaving a mere ring around the glass. After the the first few sips no lacing or bubbles are present.
S: Chocolate, candy sugar and plums are the highlights on this one with a light booze sting to boot
T: Initial taste is as I expected, dark fruits; plums, purple grapes, some dates, figs and chocolate covered raisins. Candy sugar presence provides the sweetness and there is plenty of it in this beer, a bit syrupy on the finish with a lingering, drawn out booze sting, dark fruit and chocolate presence
M: Full bodied, nice and sticky sweet, well carbonated for the style, it rolls across the palate with a sweet decadence
O: Not to bad. I love this style and glad Airways ventured off course to to do something new.
