i have loved this series since i moved to idaho, look forward to each of them, so it was cool to find an old one laying around, never knew they did a collaboration withthe bruery, thats rad! i was stoked to try this, but its pretty beat at this point, too old for what it is, a dry hopped saison with kumquats, i love the idea and the intrigue of having the bruery involved, but this is a mess now, oxidized to high heaven, more green olives and cardboard than light herbal hop tones and citrus pep, but i can still kind of appreciate what this might have been, and its cool to do this sort of beer archeology, definitely a time travel experience here. slightly faded pale orange look, some sediment in flake form but decent clarity through most of the bottle, patchy bubbles on top, decent head really, slow fade on it. nose of old wheat malt, wet paper, still some bitter citrus peel and almost essential oil, hops are all but gone, its grainy to me, and the yeast seems real subtle, unexpectedly minimal for a saison, probably a product of its age and treatment since it was bottled, i cant be too harsh on the scoring here. i really dont dig it, too old and faded, but i appreciate some bready malt supporting this, could see a floral hopping and some tart kumquats being pretty cool in a clean simple saison base, some white pepper and clove left in the yeast, green pepper too though, and white grape now. some citrus remains, mostly on the finish, and there is bitterness with the weird malt sweetness. who knows what this really was when it was new, its no longer anything like it probably was, but still a neat little novelty to try with the boys and come a little closer to tracking down every brew in this series. i wish they still did these in the large bottles, the cans are less good for ageing. no good anymore, but still fun.

Amazing citrus smell on this of oranges, lemon, grapefruit. Saison and citrus isn't really a combo I've seen before done well. This one hits the mark. The citrus complements the airy, effervescence of the Belgian yeast. The smell is absolutely superb and delivers completely.
