A higher gravity brew that is balanced by a weighty body and wheaty flavor. Late-edition Sabro hops shine bright with aromas of tangerine, coconut, tropical fruit, and stone fruit, with hints of cedar, mint, and cream. Like others in the Project X Series and true-to-style, a lasting haze persists through to the bottom of the glass and presents opaque.

Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England IPA
Glass: Firestone 16-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $3.25
From: Trader Joe’s in College Area (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: March 17, 2021
Consumed: March 21, 2021
Misc.: Canned on Feb. 22, 2021
Grabbed this, another five and a 6-pack of a Thorn hazy IPA on a recent trip to Trader Joe’s. Untappd’s description was “A higher gravity brew that is balanced by a weighty body and wheaty flavor. Poured a medium yellow semi-hazy color with four fingers of rocky white head. Could see some bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass at different speeds. Perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. Perfect retention. (Sight - 5.00)
Smelled pretty interesting. Got Sabro, mint ice cream, lime, cedar, tangerine, Tang, orange juice, coconut, dish soap, pine, floral, green vegetable and hints of bug spray. A little better out of the can. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted much better than the can. Big Sabro, cedar, mint ice cream, lime, tangerine, Tang, orange juice, dish soap, pine, coconut, floral, green vegetable and hints of bug spray. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Really liked this one. It grew on me as it went down. Just lovely. Excellent. (Overall - 4.25)

This is a great hazy IPA. The flavor sets itself apart from the masses. It's as described on the can. It also has a smooth feel with mild carbonation. Overall this is great. Not to mention the art they're using in their cans is pretty rad.

16oz can from Boise Co-op. Light golden pour, light haze, small head. Hoppy aroma, citrus, pine. Taste kicks up the hops a notch, grapefruit, resinous. A bit mouth coating.

Pint can with "genesis" date of 2/22/21. Thanks for not using some secret code. Label says it contains lactose - didn't think that was part of the NEIPA style.
Look - orangey, with a slight potato brown tinge. Thin white head, slight lacing. Totally hazy. No glass appeal for me.
Smell - soft fruits, coconut
Taste - I expected more defined flavors due to the recent canning date. The tangerine notes are not citrus-like, the other fruit notes are pleasant and have some persistence. I miss a definite herbal hop element - there's some bitterness in the aftertaste and a definite hops note.
Feel - substantial.
Interesting to try a new brewery but I won't buy this again.
Three weeks later: I changed my mind after finishing the 4x. Either there was a glassware issue or a bad can on the first try. All the remaining pints had a distinct tropical fruit aroma and a mango/guava taste that I rather liked. Still no glass appeal even with a forced pour. I tweaked the rating up a bit. I would buy this again and I would try other beers from this brewery.

The fruity profile smashes you in the face. Tangerine and apricot. Tastes almost like they just mixed in tangerine and apricot flavoring. Unique but still pretty good.

On-tap in Garden City and served in a snifter.
A: Hazy bright gold with a creamy small head that fades with soapy lace.
S: Pineapple punches me in the face, fruity and juicy. Moderate present orange and pink grapefruit, mellow soft bready malt. Big fruity Coconut. Tropical.
T: Orange and grapefruit are stronger here, leaning into the sweeter category as this thing is just mildly bitter, more like a twangy fruit juice snap than actual hop bitterness. More coconut, pineapple, soft mango. Nice cedar character bordering on mint, which must be that unique Sabro that I like. There may be an adjunct like wheat or oats leading to a softness in the body with a slight snap on the finish.
MF: Refreshing juicy body, on the lighter side of medium really even though I know it’s a double IPA. Low carbonation helps there.
O: Really nice overall, it checks the boxes for what I like in a fruity and tropical hazy IPA. The Sabro is strong with coconut and cedar, and I love that unique profile.
