Spirit Animal is a tropical fruit bomb and features a newer New Zealand hop, Nectaron. Flavors and aromas are reminiscent of tropical fruit, citrus, and stone fruit. All these flavors are layered on our baseline Project X malt bill which consists of barley, wheat, and oats, giving the beer a soft but full-bodied backbone to hold up to an aggressive hopping regiment.

*edit 04.09.25: This one definitely grew on me as I drank through the 4-pack; maybe it just needed some extra time on it (for my palate, at least); previous score was 4/4/3.5/4/3.75; upping it to 4s across the board, with exception of a 4.25 for nose!
From a 4-pack picked up at Target in Missoula, MT
16oz can poured into a Dram Shop IPA-style glass
P cloudy light orange w/ a small white cap
N soft-med muddled tropical fruits and biscuity malt; light-med sweetness; pleasant
T follows nose w/ tropical notes, stone fruit, unripe melon, and tangy green hops over biscuity malt; very neutral forward w/ a tangy finish; could use a bit more sweetness or juiciness to balance things out; tanginess lingers in the aftertaste
Mf med to med-full bodied w/ soft-med to med carb
O eh, not my favorite profile; forward isn't quite robust enough to counteract the the tanginess that dominates in the finish

this series continues to bang, really nice showcase of nectaron here, about as bold a dosing as i have experienced it too, i think this is one of the best of these in recent memory, peachy, waxy honeycomb, come candied pineapple, lots of nuance to this hop, and its hard to believe its the only varietal in here, this beer is so complete and full spectrum, very tasty, summery to me, tropical in a not cloying way, distinctive for sure. hazy yellow but still bright, not too murky or thick, lots of bubbles too, and an inch of puffy white head that doesnt budge, looks great, and smells peak fresh too. layers of green grape, white wine, white peach, coconut flesh, dandelion, and honey come out, lightly resinous but this is delicate too, and doesnt push into the green and oversaturated range, just enough malt interest to keep it balanced and flowing, thankful for the oats extending this, and the hops start real early in the flavor, like it hits its high point of flavor very early and holds it, which is cool. coconut again, weed gummies, lemon, bellini, green apple, crushed pineapple from the can, some grassiness and radiant freshness at the end, even some bitterness which i like here, helps it finish even though there is some residual sugar here. not quite creamy in body but soft and a little fuller without being a limiting factor on drinkability, totally popping hops the whole way, thiols and terps and very modern to me, coconut late, a little sticky, excellent on tap. looking forward to picking up some cans too, they nailed this one, real intense look at nectaron, which does wonderous things in this. could be the best locally made ipa available right now in the boise area...

16 oz can.
Kind of a muddled fruit look to the pour. gold to nectarine/apricot in hue with a slightly milky, 2 inch head that settles down quickly. Low retention with scattered lacing.
Nose: citrus zest, apricot, peach, and some generally tropical notes.
Flavor is much the same as the nose with subtle citrus, apricot, some mango, and a green grassy pop. Malt is a bit creamy and biscuity.
Mouthfeel is active, medium heft, and finishes a bit green in its bitterness.

Canned 11/12/24, into a tall tulip on 12/12/24. Great looking beer: Tall (2 finger or more) white head that slowly subsides to a thick-ish ring and island. A decent amount of lacing. Nice gold/apricot color. Opaque but no visible solids. My sense of smell is bad but I can readily pick up the stone fruit (nectarine/peach/apricot come to mind), citrus, and maybe some tropical fruits. Taste to match.(***Note: I read the beer description after my draft of my tasting notes and found that their description matched closely what I experienced, so bonus points to them for that.) Some back-end bitterness. Very clean finish. Really like this one.

16oz can from Brewers Haven. Hazy golden pour, fizzy head. Fruity aroma, citrusy, zesty, tropical fruit notes. Taste adds a touch of dank, over ripe fruit, apricot, grapefruit. Thick and creamy
