This is such a unique beer and I really enjoyed it. I had it twice, once at the brewery and also in a bomber. Very foamy on the pour from the bomber so slowly pour it with the glass sideways.

Reviewed 4/25/17 out of a 22 oz. bomber.
A - ebony-black with a cappuccino head that quickly overflowed a 12 oz. snifter and dissipated, but not completely, after a few minutes.
S - Leather, black cherry hint of cola
T - Primarily wood, and dust. Some herbal overtones; just a hint of bright cherry. More cola.
M - Thin, slightly fizzy. Leaves a decent pucker at the back of the mouth
O - Not bad but fairly underwhelming. Not a beer I would use to introduce someone to sours.

Appearance- When the beer was poured, the head was enormous. It took a while to settle. After it settled, I saw a black sour with a tan head.
Smell -The tart chocolate is very noticeable in the nose.
Taste - Pleasant tart cherries come at the front before a dry and tart chocolate backbone. The sourness is not overwhelming, but it lends something nice to the profile. The tart chocolate lingers in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Obviously, the beer is way overcarbonated, which may cancel the sweetness to some degree.
Overall- The beer had some serious flaws, but was overall enjoyable.

Insane head resulting from an average pour. Tall, frothy column of suds above a ruby body. Roasted malt, overripe cherries, green apple, musty wood, red grapes, cherry cough syrup. Tart, smokey and slightly sweet. Vinegar-like coating of the mouth. High acidity with a chocolate-like feel. Doesn't work for me.

Surprised this one didn't blow up in the bottle. Popping the cap off caused the bottle to gush until it was almost empty.
Pour was 100% foam, once it settled out it had a strong vinegary ketchupy flavor. Similar aroma to flavor, but less tomato-y I guess.

Straight to Ale 6th Anny Sour w/Tart Cherry, opened 2016-06-10.
Look: Dark brown. Barely any light gets through. Soapy head that settles into a ring of large bubbles around the edge and a film of tiny bubbles across the top. 4.0
Smell: Sour smell with some barnyard funk in the background. There's also a whiff of something a bit like an industrial cleaner. 3.5
Taste: It's surprisingly smooth, not really following the nose. Straight to Ale beers tend to be on the sweet side, and I think in this case that added some balance. It's a little bit sour and a little bit tart, but actually fairly mild overall. The cherry is present but subtle. There is a sort of peanut-butter-and-jelly flavor on the finish. 3.75
Mouthfeel: It's sticky but not too syrupy. The carbonation helps to lighten it. 3.75
Overall: Another solid beer from Straight to Ale. Kudos to those rocket scientists in Huntsville.

Sample pour at the Hattiesburg Beer Fest (several pours, in fact)
A: Dark brown/black with a half finger tan head that dissipated pretty quickly.
S: Cherries, dark chocolate, a bit of white wine barrel.
T: The best sour/stout blend I've tried. You really can't tell where the sour cherry and the chocolate stout begins and ends. A perfect merging of tart and heavy duty.
M: Medium to heavy with medium, chewy carbonation.
O: A real winner from my favorite Alabama brewery. And they already have a lot of winners. Share this one with friends.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into snifter.
A: Dark brown with 2-3 finger tan head. Decent retention and leaving light to moderate lacing.
S: Tart cherries, chocolate, and charred oak.
T: Semi-sweet chocolate morsels, and lightly tart cherries mixed with an oaky quality.
M: Medium body with average carbonation. A bit of a muddy texture with a slightly sour finish.
O: Interesting beer. I'm glad to see one of the locals diving into sours, and although enjoyable I was hoping for more.
