Poured from a crowler puchased at the brewery last 6 days ago.
A - Lovely deep copper color, excellent frothy off white cap, carbonation is steady and resilient. Clarity is wonderful.
S - Smoke malts to start, then with time spent, more caramel, hint of pumpernikle, earthy hops add nice bit of verbana
T - Follows the nose well, what i appreciate was the slow withdrawl of the smoked malts, allowing formore of the malt depth, touch of roast malt, hint of pepper, and toffee
M - A bit light on the palate, excellent balance, with the carbonation moving that sweet thread aside, linger centers around the light toasted malt.
O - A very good lager from a very good brewer, the smoked malts strike up an early conversation without dominating, I appreciate the balance and the earthy hop thread. @ 4.4% this is a wonderful drinking beer, in body and flavor

A lot closer to Spezial rather than Schlenkerla which it sounds like most people are comparing Rauchbiers to here.
Very well done, very drinkable Rauchbier. A Schweinshaxe away from being in Bamberg .

On tap at Deep Ellum in Boston, MA.
This one pours a moderately dark brown, with a half inch head, and a good amount of webby lacing.
This one smells like smoke, roasted malt, and a bit of chocolate.
This is definitely lightly smoked, I don't get a whole lot of smoke here, just the tiniest bit. I get more roasted malt and toasted bread, with a bit of chocolate. There's a good amount of flavor for 4.2% ABV, but at that level, you're not gonna have the most flavor for sure.
This is light bodied, with a slightly thin mouthfeel, and a lower level of carbonation.
Not bad, but I ultimately was wishing for a bit more smoke character here.

Pours near black with a light tan head--looks like a porter. Great ring lace. Dark enough so only bright light will pass through the glass.
I smell lightly charred wood. Quite mild aroma overall. I detect some more deeply roasted malts.
As far as Rauchbiers go, this is definitely on the mild side. This comes across as a Brown Ale with some black patent malt thrown in. The body is thin with a lower carbonation level. To the uninitiated, this might be a subtle introduction to the style. I really only get any significant smoke in the smell.
