Crowler filled 4/10/22

Back with more Notch, we have their extra strength Helles, a style I admittedly don’t have enough of. Especially stronger versions like this. Getting home from work to 70 degree weather absolutely called for a beer like this, so I’m excited to cool down with this one

Pours a clear pale gold with 2 fingers of soapy white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing

It’s quite basic in the nose, but it works for it. I’m picking up on aromas of bready malt, cereal grain, lemon zest, light herbal hops, and honey

It’s sweeter than expected in taste, especially on the back end, but it’s still enjoyable. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon zest, biscuity malt, white grape, toasted grain, herbal hops, and light honey. The swallow brings notes of sweet homey, bready malt, cereal grain, apple skin, and a touch of caramel

A light medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes neutral and sweet

While I do prefer the style to have a bit more of a bite, this was pretty good. A nice warm weather brew

Overall this missed the mark nice pale deep yellow color with a modest haze no lacing . Taste is too sweet for the style and lacking a larger clean crisp bite

Can. I almost made a big mistake with this one: you have to let let it warm up a little. Clear gold with semi-lasting head. Nice grainy cereal sweetness with noble herbal grassy finish. light body but fizzy when cold. Let it warm up.

Semi cloudy honey color with a 2F head.
Very deep malt aroma, sweetness as the beer warms up.
Slightly fruity, sweet, deep malt taste.
Dry almost champagne like finish.
Very enjoyable, and an excellent approach to the Helles style.

Pours a pale gold with nice white head. Decent retention and a bit of lacing. Smell is of bready malts and some citrusy hops. Taste starts with some nice bready malts and sweetness, then a lemon bite, ends crisp with maybe a hint of almond paste. Feel was medium with good carbonation.

This is a great Helles. Large flavor on both the malt and hops end, hits all the right notes along with some tasty surprises and a great crisp snap. A couple liters of this in a beer garden and I would be very happy.

Drank from a 16 fl. oz., 473 ml. can purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, MA
Canned on 1/29/19
Served in a Pilsner glass

Slightly hazed, pale golden yellow appearance. The body was topped by a fluffy, bright white, three-finger tall crown that slowly dropped to a thick, lasting collar. Patches of drippy lacing stuck along the glass.

Nice bready, biscuity aroma. German malts were apparent. Crisp and bright. Slightly lemony. Touch of sweetness. Whiff of sulfur too.

The flavor profile was fantastic and amazingly well rounded. Fairly malty up front. Big, bready, German malt presence. Honey-like notes came through strong in the center. Surprisingly sweet for the style. Touch of lemon on the back end. The beer finished remarkably crisp and clean with just a hint of earthy hop bitterness.

Excellent soft, creamy mouthfeel. Fuller bodied for the style. The liquid contained a fine, somewhat restrained carbonation that lent the beer a terrific, frothy suppleness.

This is the first German Helles I have tried in quite a while, and it was really impressive. The honey notes in the flavor balanced out the hops very nicely, and the mouthfeel was spot on for the style. Notch Brewing have been receiving a lot of praise for their lagers recently. I definitely plan on exploring more of their offerings in the future.
