Welcome to my opening salvo in Hoppy New Full Pint Sunday (Week 704)! This serves to dual purpose of creating this week's theme as well as continuing the eradication of The Bottle Backlog at Chez Woody. The latter is actually a finite proposition as I am buying fewer & fewer bottles anyway.
From the Bottle: "Beer Nerd Stats: OG: 10.5// 4.3$ ABV // 40 IBU Malts: Pale, Carapils, Caramalt Hops: Chinook".
They must love Chinook hops as shall be demonstrated later inna day. Inna meantime, it was a Pop! of the cap & a hearty "Hi ho, away we go!" to the accompanying strains of "The William Tell Overture". I went with a slow, gentle pour as others had mentioned the presence of floaties. Once the beer was sufficiently decanted into the awaiting glass, an in-glass swirl raised just over a finger of foamy, fizzy, soapy, tawny head with limited retention. It left a lot of nice lacing in its wake as it fell, though. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with no visible particulates. I am going to watch to see if it clarifies as it warms since I keep my reefers rather chilly, which could account for the light haze. Nose had a grapefruit cast, but I have been fooled by aroma hops in these Session AIPAs before. The proof is in the pudding, or the tasting thereof. Mouthfeel was kind of thin for an AIPA, not downright watery, per se, but not up to acceptable levels. The taste had a grapefruit bitterness, but it struck me as kind of one-dimensional. I had fully expected to taste some caramel, but the grapefruit just overwhelmed everything. Does that make it "bad"? After all, I am the one usually advocating for MORE bitterness. Does this mark me as a crotchety curmudgeon who can't make up his mind? Maybe. Or maybe it's like pornography - difficult to describe, but I know it when I see it! The word "unbalanced" comes to mind. The beer, not me, silly! Well, maybe both. Finish was dry, bitter, but unrelenting in its grapefruit character. I just feel like they could have done better in its execution. YMMV.

Social Grapefruit Session IPA 4.3% ABV. (as read on the bottle) 40 IBU's, O.G. 10.5
Malts: Pale, Carapils, Caramlat Hops: Chinook
I went to Liberty beer on Liberty Ave. and there was a rep from Full Pint Brewing there. I tasted T-Funk and Social. Good news! The guy said that they had just made this batch of social and it was finished on Monday. That means it wasn't even a week old, so ofcourse I had to buy some of this stuff. I have had Social before, but at the bar and this was fresh right from the brewery, quite a treat.
Look: Poors out a clear yellow, but once you poor all of it out it is a bit more cloudy yellow with a pure white fluffy head. There was a ton of lacing on the glass and a good amount of carbonation.
Smell: Grapefruit, lemon, citrus
Taste: Grapefruit, lighter malts, hops and spiceyness to it in the aftertaste.
Feel: light and refreshing
Overall: This is chategorized as a session IPA, but it really feels more like a grapefruit flavored ale. There are so many pale ales that have grapefruit notes in them from the hops, but you can tell that they brewed this one with fresh grapefuit. It really shows through and I love it as a session beer.
