October 2012 bottle, 25 oz., poured into a pint glass.
A hazy, cloudy golden color, slightly orange, with thin head. Immediately astringent and boozy odor with a hint of fruit. Lightly carbonated, medium body--nice and inviting once the boozy odor settles down.
The first few sips are tough, probably should have served at a warmer temp. The flavors--fruit, caramel, a little spice--eventually caught up to the initially overwhelming alcohol taste for a pleasant, unusual Belgian strong.

A: Pours a hazy clay orange with a finger of khaki head that fades into a thin ring with little lacing.
S: Oak and red wine aromas hit first followed by a strong kick of funk and must. Smells almost like a Brett beer. The finish is of sweet light fruits with just a little tartness.
T: Oak and red wine flavors permeate throughout along with a musty barnyard and funky flavor. There are some tart and sweet fruit notes along with sweet bread flavors underneath. Slight alcohol burn on the finish.
M: Medium body with lowish carbonation, this beer avoids being watery despite the lack of carbonation.
O: An impressive beer overall. I didn't know what to expect going into this, but am very pleasantly surprised. I love the combination of red wine and funky flavors in this beer.
