Imperial Stout Aged in Whiskey Barrels with Coffee, Cacao, Peanuts.
2019 saw the release of Chocolate Rapture Baptist & Peanut Butter Cup Baptist. These two variants were our most popular of the 2019 releases, but we at the brewery were a house divided between Team Chocolate & Team Peanut Butter. Most conflicts are best settled with compromise, so we combined and then doubled the amount of chocolate and peanut butter because too much is rarely enough!

I think this is my last one of the Baptist Beers; if not, I have a few left to review. I am using a tulip glass and serving the beer at 50 degrees. The pour created a frothy, foamy, creamy, two-fingered, tan head with average retention. The somewhat quick dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The color is coal black with dark, rusty brown hues, charting at SRM 36, and opaque. The appearance is average for this style; I was happy to see the head retention.
Nosing the glass, I smell toasted peanuts, coffee, chocolate, bourbon, char, earthiness, oak, dark roasted malts, char, tobacco, lightly toasted cereal grains, malty sweetness, molasses, raisins, and a hint of toffee. I also notice yeast, floral, caramel, pine, and fruity notes.
Sipping the beer, I noticed its toasted peanuts, chocolate caramel, toffee, medium-roasted coffee, dark-roasted malts, molasses, lightly toasted grains, malty sweetness, burnt sugar, raisins, figs, earthiness, yeasty phenol, and grassiness.
The mouthfeel is tart, and the finish is dry. The body is medium-plus with medium-low carbonation.
I am not getting the "double portion of the beer, peanut butter, and chocolate." The roasted peanuts and chocolate are adequate, but I wanted Epic to push the boundaries a bit more. It is a solid beer and a delicious finish to a long day.

i was a fan of the original, liked how it was authentic on the peanuts, even a little salty like good peanut butter, but also agree that more would be fun to try too, so i was excited for this. unfortunately my first experience with it, and only still, was on tap. a lot of these have been vastly better in the bottle, and i have to hope this one is the same. it seems tired and faded even though its new, perhaps spend extended time in a very long beer line where i had it and lost its mojo, but that is speculation. it was so muted on peanut butter in fact that i had to double check with the server and then the bartender to confirm that i even got the right beer! its a wonderful base stout, everybody knows that by now, and that is still on display here. its a little flat and slightly greasy looking from the tap, but black and shiny and relatively viscous with a big coffee and roast aroma, obvious bourbon and oak character, and dark chocolate wafting up, faint oxidation, warm alcohol, and a sort of composty thing to it, but peanuts are not really part of what i smell, and even the chocolate seems less than anticipated for being doubled in this variant. i do get light nuttiness to the flavor, especially in the middle, but to call it out as peanut from this pour would be a stretch, perhaps slightly salty too. its sort of decayed to me, some bitterness from the cocoa but thats really about it, more wood than whiskey in taste, and a thinness the others dont have. its not bad, but its not double chocolate double peanut butter either, thats for sure. no doubt something is off here, so i will have to track a bottle down and amend this review, i know this is better than what i was served, but have to wait to confirm. the rest of the variants ive had this year have all been fantastic, but they have also all been from the bottle. its still the baptist though, so like, its not awful, but its disappointing to be so excited to see this on tap and then have it underwhelm like this, perhaps as much on the establishment as on the format. more to come...

Well this is sounding good! Did overflow when opening and this brand has a history of being infected from memory. Already worried, but a quick taste of the run off has removed most of my concerns.
Nose - Fairly dry, standard whisky aged stout. Light oak, touch of dark chocolate, vanilla beans, alcohol soaked espresso beans come out with a swirl. Even a hint of a chocolate covered raisin that's a bit old. Peanut better however isn't coming out at all. Maybe when I look for it, I get a nutty element in the background, almost as if the base of the beer has a touch of nutty element, but I'm freaking looking for it and likely just the power of suggestion.
Taste - Right off the bat you can't miss the added chocolate, then I get some cinnamon, bit of oak, and then a nice finish. The finish is where yes, peanut butter absolutely sneaks in. Not nearly the nutty peanut butter bomb I somewhat was hoping they both did and did well. I'll have to reset my expectations and go back in. It's interesting the coffee and peanut butter are fighting over the finish, and it seems I'm the loser.
Mouth feel, it's on the right track with viscous creamy body, but comes up short of greatness.
Overall, wonderful beer, and at 20 bucks I'm not upset about the buy. I however don't see another one in my future. Always love this series and I should be more active in seeking them out. None the less a great post workout "recovery" beer in honor of Luka's 60 I suppose.

Very good head production and decent retention. Attractive brew.
Nose absolutely delivers on the premise: whiskey, peanut butter, and chocolate. In the background, there's some molasses, coffee, red grape, caramel, and vanilla.
Very rich and flavorful on the palate. Roasted barley up front, accented by the peanuts, followed by notes of chocolate, espresso, brown sugar, molasses, red grape, whiskey, toffee, caramel. Really smooth and rich profile. If it doesn't quite reach Angry Chair levels of rich flavor, that's perhaps an unreasonable expectation; this is primarily a flavored BBA imperial stout, more than it is pretending to be a pastry stout.

The beer pours a nice bubbly brown head that dissipates at a moderate pace. The beer itself is a very dark brown to the point where it look black. It has a thin looking texture that more strongly resembles whiskey than a beer.
The smell is pretty good. It has a strong whiskey note that comes upfront and hides some of the other notes a little bit. The other notes that do manage to come out consist of a nice burnt coffee note with a mild cacao note and alight peanut note to it.
The taste is good. It has that strong whiskey note through the whole thing that covers up a lot of the notes. The coco comes out pretty well though while the peanut butter is pretty light. The coffee is roasted instead of burnt and good.
The feel is good. It has a viscous and thin body with a bit of heft like whiskey. It has a biting carbonation to it.
OVerall ,a pretty good beer worth getting. It's delicious and good for dessert.

Poured a black body with pretty much no head and looks like motor oil. The aroma is basically a peanut butter cup and some booze. The beer is actually not too thick, medium-to-heavy body, with a chocolate peanut butter cup taste along with hint of nutty dryness and booze on the finish. An enjoyable slow sipper for anybody who likes peanut butter.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a one finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, bourbon, light cocoa and peanut with a touch of wood. Flavor is dark toasted malt, peanut butter, milk chocolate, bourbon and light coffee. Chocolate milk and bourbon finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess; fine mouth feel. I was expecting this one to be one of the more over the top versions of this stout, but have to say that it is surprisingly mellow and well integrated. The chocolate and peanut butter are not quite doubled, but on the other hand, the balance of chocolate, peanut butter and bourbon is very nice. I could take more of each, but am very happy with the smooth harmonious flavor. The one thing that seems almost absent is the coffee, which is a bare taste in the finish. This seems to be a divisive version, but I like it a lot.

1 PT. 6 FLUID OUNCE bottle
Served in a snifter
This beer pours black and is topped with an inch of mocha head that leaves virtually no lacing.
i smell chocolate right away. I get wafts of straight booze. I smell some coffee and roasted malt.
The chocolate is upfront. I get some underlying whiskey and oak flavor. The peanut butter is conspicuously absent like it was in the aroma. Hmm
Medium bodied with a smooth ass mouthfeel
This is a good beer. Sadly the peanut butter seemed to go A.W.O.L. in this bottle. I enjoyed everything else about it though. Even thought the peanut butter is lacking I still like this beer. I would have been so much better, potentially, with some peanut butter on the senses.
