this is really good, expensive for a single, but better than a lot of its peers, sturdy and fresh, incredibly flavorful, natural on the coconut, real well integrated and compatible with the hops, not like many of these where its over the top, more like lotion or sunscreen than it is like an actual coconut, and the absence of other fruits like pineapple and guava is cool too, just coconut and hops, i love it! i dont know what the hops are, but they are well selected and sort of stand in for other fruit, this still has a colada or tropical smoothie vibe, hints of crushed pineapple, canned mandarin oranges, green grapes, and melon all pop out of the hops. amazingly its not real sweet, there is some hop bitterness late keeping it squarely in the ipa realm, but it also relies on some earthy dry grain, oats maybe in here, and some grassiness in the hop profile to set up the coconut and be a catalyst for it, not residual sugar. the coconut is fleshy and natural, not toasted or desserty to me, almost has a coconut water subtlety to it. refreshing and quenching in a double hazy ipa, this is way too drinkable for what it is. decent body to this, flavorful hops through the whole drink, and an almost whipped up creaminess to the texture, no trace of its alcohol strength at all. my wife and i both loved this, the real coconut with the tropical hop profile is wonderful. epic should consider keeping this one around...

Put the IPA in the Coconut from Epic Brewing. Purchased on 5 Aug 21 from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. $4.00 (Including tax) per 16 oz can ($0.250/oz). In the reefer at the store, stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 13/8/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on bottom of can “B 9/6/2021”. Served at 44.7 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 52.5 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), hazy.
Body – Pale Gold (SRM 4), hazily opaque. When rear-lite, translucent.
Head – Average (Maximum three cm, aggressive center pour), ghost white, high density, fair retention, diminishing to an undulating eleven to fifteen mm crown and a rocky complete cap. Second pour produces a tight one cm head.
Lacing – Excellent! Wide band of mostly tiny bubbles and a few small ones, topped with two prominences.
Aroma – 3 – Some pineapple, incredibly weak coconut, no malt, no yeast.
Flavor – 3 – Begins weakly bitter and slightly citrusy. No malt. No yeast. No coconut. No ethanol (8.5 % ABV, as marked on container) taste. No gastric warming initially, but it begins to gradually build. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium, approaching creamy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 Looks and feels better than it smells or tastes. More pineapple on subsequent belches than in swallows. No coconut flavor at all.
