The Samurai Sword is revered for its beauty, craft, and the Samurai that once wielded them. Samurai Baptist is aged in 100% used Sake barrels. These barrels impart subtle notes of umami and fresh oak. This beer is a tribute to Japanese Steel and the ancient warriors of past.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, sake, cocoa, woody oak and light molasses. Flavor of dark toasted malt, dark chocolate, woody oak; sake developing at the end of the taste and lingering in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. This version sounded a bit too gimmicky and unlikely to work, but it is quite interesting and surprisingly well integrated. The sake flavor is subdued in the main taste, although there is an unique and almost ephemeral flavor I couldn't identify. As noted, the sake character develops slowly in the taste, but is distinct in the finish, but still melds with the base malt. Quite enjoyable and one of my favorites of the recent variants.
