Imperial Stout with Cinnamon, Vanilla, Chipotle and Ancho Chilis aged in Bourbon Barrels

Master Clown Shoes began to feel despair. What was he doing? What’s the point and what’s the purpose of it all? Where, how, could he find a way to fix himself?

While lost in these dark thoughts, shockingly, the brewery came under attack!

A giant four armed Luchador was tearing the building apart, batting aside or crushing workers in his path. Master Clown Shoes moved to defend his new home, taking a defensive stance as he peered into the face of the monster and he saw his nemesis.

Deep brown with a tall brown colored head. Can't tell if it is clear it will not let a strong light pass through it.

Smells sweet and spicy. Bourbon, Cinnamon and vanilla leap right out at you. The chilies are there as a fruity smell, but I would not have ID'd them without looking at the bottle. But it smells really good.

Starts out sweet and a bit woody and bitter. Lots of oak and a mild alcohol burn. Strong chocolate taste. Whiskey is there but not overpowering. Mild charred wood flavor. Maybe a little chili burn but I didn't notice that much of it. Mostly it is a mildly sweet strong stout.

Mouthfeel is full and creamy but not super thick.

Overall a tasty stout that is dangerously drinkable for its strength. You could chug this it is that smooth. But take your time and enjoy it.

I think all high ABV beers should come in this format. Plenty to share but yet doable solo. Plenty of barrel character and they also found the need to add vanilla, so bit of a vanilla bomb. No chile heat or flavor. Cinnamon is mild. Very sweet. Decent barrel-aged stout, disappointing Mexican stout.

From the 19.2 oz can in a snifter. This solid little stout pours a nice
blackish brown with a decent head of off white foam that settles to
a thin ring, thin dusty layer, and shows nice light lacing. Nose of
faint cinnamon, dark cocoa, faint bourbon, dark cocoa, and subtle
vanilla. Flavors exceed the nose with dark cocoa, subtle bourbon, light
oak, definite cinnamon, vanilla, light dry oak, and light char with a
touch of coffee. Nice mouth feel; full body, smooth, warm, robust,
moderately coating, medium warmth, and a medium dry finish.

Overall----SOLID, nothing overpowers anything else.

Cheers

pour is black with a half finger of persistent khaki head.
nose is roasted malt, hint of cinnamon, subtle coffee.
Taste is chocolate, cinnamon, roasted malts. Not much barrel to speak of.
low carbonation, appropriate for the style

19.2 oz can.

Pours a dark cola color, near jet black, with a 2 finger fluffy tan head. The head has solid retention. Leaves some cobwebs of lacing along the glass.

Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts and chocolate with some very faint pepper notes on the back.

The flavor is pretty standard for a bourbon barrel aged stout: Chocolate, caramel, light bourbon and vanilla. Some roasted malts. As the beer warms, there's a shadow of a ghost of a hint of chili pepper spice. Like licking the air in the general vicinity of a hot pepper. Very disappointing in that regard.

The feel is full bodied with lower carbonation. Creamy and relatively smooth. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, all things considered.

Overall this is a pretty good barrel aged stout. The bourbon is there but not overpowering. Unfortunately the chili flavors are barely existent and would have been a welcome addition to an otherwise straightforward version of the style.

19.2 ounce can, canned on 05/24/21. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are OK. The brew smells like vanilla, bourbon, cinnamon, roasted malt and a hint of peppers. Luckily the taste has more kick to it. There's burnt/charred malt, ancho/chipotle pepper, vanilla, bourbon, oak, cinnamon and dark chocolate flavors. Pepper is noticeable, but I wish it had more of a spicy kick to it. The spice does get a little stronger as the beer warms. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a little creamy and slick with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this brew, but was expecting more from this I guess. With that being said, it's still a good imperial stout that's worth trying!

From a 570 ml. can dated 05/24/21. Sampled July 9, 2021.

Handsome looking black appearance under a modest, fading tan head., It turns into a ring.

The aroma is roasted chocolate m alts, pepper and spice, wood, and a hint of bourbon. It is barrel-aged.

Smooth, medium or better body.

The taste begins sweet, roasty, and alive with chocolate until the chipotle chili peppers sneak up on the backside and give it a little heat to finish it off. The booze is lower profile than I expected. It is a better than decent beer.
