Not much carbonation behind this darker crimson brew. Smell of leather, a musty grainery, booze, and vanilla. Getting a lot of the whiskey from the barrel but not much wine. Notes of wood, caramel, musk, leather, and toffee. Low carbonation lends itself to a slow sipper like this old ale. I still would of wanted some more life in this beer.

pours a slightly cloudy amber brown body with a cream-colored froth head that never quite finishes developing before falling down to a murky cap with big defined halo. leaves occasional thin lacing behind
aroma is fairly strong. slightly boozy, pretty sweet, woody with a little funk, with plenty of malt and wine mustiness
taste follows that up, adding leather and dark berry, maybe even a little dark cherry in there, but plenty of caramel malt in the base.
mouthfeel is fairly high carbonation with medium body that at times seems a bit watery but is ultimately pillowed out by a chewy carbonation tinged by booze prickles. finishes sweet, wine-like funky, with a tad bit of dryness and leaves a wine and caramel aftertaste that fades to a musty bitterness that sits on the roof of the mouth and cheeks.
overall:
super solid, rich, rustic, complex, and ultimately enjoyable. a bit like a dim lit dusty library filled with old leather-bound tomes, and a great example of the Old Ale style

I keep buying Clown Shoes despite their low hit rate of excellent beers…flip side, the rarely make stinkers. 19.2 oz. can split with my wife while trying to watch a movie with subtitles. Talent.
The pour is a relatively flat hot pokered red. The nose is caramel with a touch of fruit & sweetness.
Flight to Bolivia solidifies a solid pattern. The most prominent taste is caramel that’s been rubbed with fresh leather along with a dry woody note from the barrel. Blackberries & a gentle alcohol splint that speaks faintly of bourbon. Easy to sip.
Simple with an exceedingly light barrel touch, nothing really to see here. Pretty good.

Bought a can of this beer at a local grocery store. Poured into a tulip glass. Clear dark brown color with a good beige initial head and some lacing. Smell and taste of molasses and dark fruit. Slightly boozy and some warm spice. Feel was as expected, but it would have been nice to be a bit richer. Classic old ale profile, and I like it.

Muddy brown color. Light doesn't pass but I'd say it's more from the cloudiness than darkness. Minor head, but it leaves some wider streaks.
I smell cinnamon, nutmeg, and maple sugar. This seems to be more of a winter warmer than an old ale.
Very sweet with a molasses base, correspondingly the body is very rich with a low level of carbonation. Think gingerbread without any ginger. Not as boozy as 11% should indicate. The finish is like toffee. The aftertaste is similar to a molasses based cookie.

Look: It pours brown with some clouding. It has a tan head with low head retention.
Smell: It has a bit of sweetness in aroma with cherry and caramel. There are also molasses elements with bread and a low sherry note.
Taste: It has a strong malty flavor with some dried cherries and caramel. There is low bread and a fairly good amount of sherry flavor.
Feel: It has a medium full body with strong alcohol warming.
Overall, for such a strong beer, the alcohol warming is quite smooth. The flavor combination is very good.
