De Bierothek. En copa de hefe de Weihenstephander. Jugando a Uncharted 2 y Fortnite. Ahumado suave que no desagrada pero que tampoco termina de entusiasmar.

Brauerei & Gasthof Drei Kronen "Stöffla Keller Rauchbier"
2,40€ for a ,3l glass at the brauerei
Notes: Slightly hazy deep copper colored body beneath a densely creamy head of off-white. Excellent head retention and lacing. Clear Beechwood smoke in the aroma. The smokiness carries into the flavor and it's not as strong as some (Schlenkerla) but stronger than others (Spezial). Some caramelish and subtly toasty maltiness balances it nicely and some herbal hops back it up. A firm bitterness helps to dry it in the finish that lingers with caramelish malt, smoke, and herbal hops. Smooth across the palate with a medium body and soft, fine-bubbled, seemingly natural carbonation.

Really good Rauchbier as it is typical for the region. The aroma is quite strong of smoked meat but in a way clean and without the sweetness that comes with smoked pork (Speck), if you know what I mean. Taste is also strong smoked meat surprisingly dry. A little campfire. A little too thin, could use more yeast to round it out. Still great in every way.

Vom Fass, it pours medium dark amber with a frothy head. Lacing. Nose definitely includes the smoke aspect, followed by a bit of malt. I note the smoke in the mouth more delicately. Fine mouthfeel. Yum!

Visited Drei Kronen on 27SEP09 for lunch and some bier... An unbelievably fantastic Käsespätzle was accompanied by two 0.5l glasses of Stöffla.
My glass contained an attractive, clear, chestnut-hued bier. A creamy beige head leaves solid lacing behind while maintaining decent cover for the liquid. Has a lovely rauch aroma; nothing Schlenkerla-like, but solid, and suggests dryness. Passes smoothly with a velvet touch on the tongue, yet it is not quite medium in body.
Some toasty malt and light caramel first hit the palate. Following shortly dryness kicks in with the not-so-subtle rauch character. An ever-so-light, floral hop hit at the end maintains a semblance of balance. A nice bier; quite easy drinking. Zum Wohl!!

Based on my notes from my Oct 2007 trip.
Serving Vom Fass on tap at the brewery restaurant. Served in a 500 ml glass mug. Seidla.
Color Medium amber appearance. Good head of foam peaking over the glass about 2 inches.
Smell - slight smoke like bacon or ham, faint noble hop aroma.
Taste - delicate smokiness, clean flavors that youd expect from a lager.
Mouthfeel very well balanced - the natural carbonation produced microbubbles that contributed to a very nice mouthfeel.
Drinkability. This is very drinkable for a smoked beer.
