A: A dense 3 finger head that lasted for daaays when poured into a teku glass. When the foam finally fell it left behind a thick coat of lacing all the way down the side of the glass - beutiful. The beer is a ligh copper color with good clarity. All about the foam on this bad boy.
S: Big bright hop aroma full of tropical fruit (pineapple, lychee, mango) stonefruit (apricot and peach) and low grassy pine. No alcohol or fermentation character noticable. Malt aroma has low levels of bread crust and cracker scents.
T: The moderate hop bitterness, full of juicy pineapple and overripe apricot, seems to get stronger as its sipped. Similar hop flavors as in the nose, but more evolved/developed - juicy/cooked/overripened. The balance is on the hop side by far, making this beer much more IPA like then Pale Ale as far as my pallet goes. There is a perceived sweetness from the hops, but a low level of caramel and toffee malt flavor. Alcohol is more noticable in the flavor.
M: Clean with a medium body. Carbonation is moderate and the alcohol becomes more noticable when chewed. The hops give a slight mouth drying experience.
O: Excellent, excellent beer. My first experience with Equinox hops in a beer and i would compare it to a combo of Amarillo, Citra and Nelson. I don't know if i would use it for bittering as it leads to a more noticable grassy bitterness, however its not bad by any means. My only comment is this should be in the IPA category, its a beefy beer at 7%+ percent the balance is in the range of an IPA - just my opinion. I'd pick this up again
