Birrificio Italiano "Sparrow Pit"
33 cl brown glass bottle coded "LOTTO No 18151 IMBOTTIGLIATA IL: 23-08-18 DA CONSUMARSI PREFERIBILAMENTE ENTRO IL: 31-10-2020". Sampled on 5 December 2019.
€6,70 @ Birrificio Italiano, Lurago Marinone, IT
Look: Hazy reddish amber with crimson highlights beneath a pillowy head of off-white. Very good head retention and lacing.
Smell: Aroma of dried apricots and light spiciness.
Taste: Notes of golden caramel, darker caramel, apple, grass, and mild herbs, dried leaves, and spice. The alcohol never shows. Low to moderate bitterness. Mostly dry with a mild, lingering finish as the malt and hops fade.
Feel: Medium-full in body and crisp-then-smooth across the palate.
Overall: An interesting Italian take on the English barley wine style.

A 330ml bottle from La Cervesia, in Lucca. It's a very stylish looking bottle. Batch 597, bottled- 10-02-15, expiry 15-02-17, ABV 9.5 It pours light brown colour with a beige head. Aromas of earth & malt liquor. Tastes of earth, malt liquor, caramel, dried fruits and mildly of pine with a aftertaste that has a good level of malty bitterness.
