Good German style doppelbock, chocolatey up front, with roast coming through the mid-taste. Had it even more highly rated until booziness crept through as the beer warmed.

Pint at Westside Taphouse in West Salem OR
$6
Pours a deep garnet/ruby coloured body with a good sized beige head.
Aromas of toffee/treacle and a small amount of floral hops..but its all malts really.
Taste very malty as expected..toffee, fudge. caramel, ..slight alohol..some hazelnuts. bit of earth..gorgeous really well balanced.
Nice rounded smooth yet drinkable mouth feel.…

These guys make such great IPA's and APA's, you sort of have to question their decision to try their hand at lagers. In any event...
The beer pours a dark blackish brown color, with good head retention and lacing. The nose is classic doppelbock aromas, with light coffee, dark chocolate, light vanilla and a hint of cola. The flavor profile is more of the same, but I also picked up considerable brown sugar and molasses. The beer is also a bit on the sweet side, which detracts a bit from the beer's drinkability. Otherwise, the mouthfeel is medium bodied, and the beer certainly carries it's abv. very well.
Shrug. This is a solid beer from Boneyard, but I'm accustomed to them making world class IPA's and APA's, and this is clearly not a world class doppelbock. A decent beer, but I'm not sure I'm in any mood to try it again soon.
