Smooth, smooth, smooth ... and surprisingly subtle. Boneyard says this beer has coffee, chocolate, and unsweetened cocoa, on top of lots of rolled oats. And oh yeah, it's spent six months in bourbon barrels.
But it's not an over-the-top beer. Everything is smoothly blended into an imperial stout that's mild compared to many in the style. Even the ABV is understated at 9%, lower than most bourbon barrel bombs.
The coffee is definitely there. It's got the smooth mouthfeel of an oatmeal stout. And just the right amount of bourbon.
Highly recommended for those who like subtlety.
