2023 vintage, didnt know it was simcoe at the time but that makes sense, looks like they have done this with other varietals over the years. boneyard is interesting to me because everyone was so stoked to get them in the rest of the northwest or mountain states over the last couple years, but then there really wasnt ever any new beers, and even now they are few and far between so some of the luster has worn off overall, but i was pumped to encounter this one! fresh simcoe hops in a stronger but still easy drinking ipa. this is blonde, dry, clean, and only a little bit bitter, especially for simcoe, pretty approachable really for what it is. lightly unfiltered golden looking. the nose is bright and fresh even this late in the fresh hop season, pink grapefruit, tangerine, and pine needle, woodsy and citrusy both, some light green grass character but not really vegetal overall, and light and minimal on the malt side. the flavor follows, some lemon, a nice oily richness to the hops all through it, a subtle hint of coconut, cooked orange, and good weed. it doesnt linger or burn, its not overdone or aggressive for no reason, and the alcohol is not a factor hardly at all. a little relaxed on the carbonation not necessarily a bad thing, i like the pace of this. i drink a lot less imperial ipa than i used to, but this is great. not as intense as some other boneyard hoppy beers, very enjoyable.

2022 FH brewed with Simcoe, enjoyed on tap.
Light on the aroma, with some chew on the end. The fresh hop character isn’t particularly strong on this, even after warming.
