they are calling this a west coast pils, but india pale lager is probably the closest thing we have for a category on BA at this point, i know we have been adding beer styles lately, this is a good candidate for next, but for now here it lives. its a really nice beer and i adore the name, myself a big user of eloquent profanity, classy! blonde and pretty clear, fizzy with a short white head, looks lively and basic. the aroma is cool, very hoppy, to me almost southern hemisphere, with some fresh honeydew and subtle white wine grape fruitiness, but also a little spruce or gin-like character, not crazy bitter but not nothing there either, rather generic but well enough made pils type at the core of this, loosely european on the grain side, close to neutral on the ferment to my nostrils, and with good minerality and overall water chemistry it seems, tidy and minimal really, this is about the hops and its balance leans that way pretty severely, which is expected in this subset of the style. the sweet spot is to not lose the pils character to the hops, and this doesnt in the flavor, its still crackery and cereal driven, and obviously lagered despite the quickness of the yeast in here. chardonnay, elderflower, kiwi fruit, green gooseberry, juniper berry, meyer lemon, and light noble spiciness even in the mix, the whole thing comes and goes pretty fast and is darn dry overall, but the flavor climax is poppy and bright and very well hopped, nicely resolved at the end, good carbonation, professional lagering. very solid effort here, and one that would be a good candidate for cans, this style space is hot and this is a fine take.
