On tap into an American pint @ Hudson Public House, Seattle.

Pours a nice clean copper color w/ good stratified lacing as I drain the pint.

Aroma is a burst of fresh citrus and pine. Smells so juicy and delicious.

Taste follows nose. Tropical clean hoppy goodness, held together with soft wheat malt. Just a hint of booze.

Mouthfeel is smooth and drinkable. So so drinkable.

Another great beer from Boneyard. How they get so much fresh hop flavor and aroma into their beers is a mystery.

Poured a hazy golden/orange in glass. A very tasty brew for those with a penchant for NW/American hops. Hoppy but not overly bitter, grapefruit/citrus in both nose and taste. Reminiscent of Racer 5 with a bit more 'in your face' hop character. I'd classify this more as an IPA than an American Pale Wheat.

A: Served in a pint glass, Aleias was a light amber color with a one finger, off-white head, with very nice retention and streaky lacing down the sides.

S: Quite hoppy for an American Pale Wheat Ale, akin to Gumballhead. Some citrus and tropical fruit, a little wheat, and a hint of earthy/spice.

T: Similarly hoppy on the flavor profile for style, some orange, orange rind, and a bit of grapefruit. Slightly sweet.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

O: Another solid offering from Boneyard. I can see the similarities to Gumballhead, until you get to the 7.1% that this one clocks in at. Easy drinking despite the abv though.

 

 

 

Growler from Main Brew, supposedly two of only 40 kegs made in collaboration with Deschutes. Poured into my large Gulden Draak tulip, Aleias is pale auburn with an off-white head leaving detailed lace.

Smell is pungently hoppy. Boneyard is in a league of their own, on the nose here really showing off the citrus and tropical fruit aromas of the bright hops. Candied, my only knock is it's a bit too sweet.

Taste is also massive hop flavor, huge fruit, moderate bitterness, a light cracker note from the malt, and I have to (although I admit to being a boneyard fan-boy) that the wheat malt actually comes across here much like a bit of wheat crackers. Behind the huge hop blast. Love it, although again, a touch more attenuation would be preferable, or at least less perceived sweetness (maybe with some piney hops?).

Mouthfeel is oily and medium-light bodied.

Drinkability is high, this is a killer IPA, and in-spite of the pungency of the hops, the grain bill really show-cases the wheat in a notably positive manner. Killer.

" . . . an India Wheat Ale (IWA). Featuring a good portion of wheat malt along with pale malt and a touch of crystal, they then hopped it well beyond Boneyard's RPM IPA. Simcoe and Amarillo were used exclusively throughout the process. Aleias IWA has a crisp malt character with loads of citrus and tropical hop flavor coming from using 3.5 pounds of hops per barrel. Aleias was dry hopped 3 times."

Lightly hazy, burnt orange with a foamy white head. Some lacing.

Fruity, citric hops upfront, followed quickly by big resiny hops to finish it out in both the nose and palate.

Medium body with medium, prickly carbonation. Lightly resiny, oily mouth coating hops.

Really enjoyable, very hoppy beer. Think Lagunitas' A Little Sumpin Sumpin, as far as a heavily hopped, slightly higher ABV than usual wheat beer, but even hoppier, and IMHO a more enjoyable hop profile.
