Croce Di Malto "80's"
5,5€/"pint" on tap @ Black lodge, Firenze, IT on 25 November 2019
Notes: This gose with melon is a collaboration with Birra Nova. 4.8% ABV.
Look: Looks like a witbier with a hazy straw gold to gold body beneath a short head of densely foamy bright white. Average head retention and lacing but good for being a sour beer.
Smell: Aroma of non-specific melon, lightly sweet wheat malt, and a light mineral character.
Taste: The flavor mimics the aroma. It's not that tart, and in fact very mild. The mineral character from the lactobacillus is also mild. It's distinctly melon-like but I still can't figure out what fruit it might be. A moderate bitterness balances it nicely, and it finishes mild with a short-lived note of melon and apple lingering.
Feel: Light-medium in body and smooth.
Overall: Delicate and refreshing, but also unique, and compelling.
