On tap at Fullsteam Brewery in Durham. Twist on carver is a different version of the regular carver lager with 50% of the fermentables being sweet potato.
The beer pours a very cloudy burnt orange color with a bubbly white head that dissipates to leave nice lacing on the glass. This is as opaque of a beer as I've seen for this color of lager...extremely cloudy.
The smell is fairly nondescript with notes of sweet potato and peppery spice. I also get a nice earthy lemony smell that compliments the sweet potato very nicely.
The taste starts off slightly sweet but quickly is overtaken by a very aggressive peppery yeast. The yeast is very nice and reminds me of a saison or wit yeast and really brings out some nice earthy notes. The sweet potato is slightly present but never comes to the forefront.
The mouth is very carbonated, but still maintains lightness on the palate. For being a more challenging beer with efferent flavors, it is surprisingly drinkable and easy to enjoy. I like this one slightly better than the regular carver.
