From 09/20/11 notes. Had on tap at the brewpub.

a - Pours a dark murky yellow color with an inch of white head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks like the Weiss but a little darker and with more carbonation.

s - Smells of strawberries, a little tart, bready malts, and some yeast. Strawberries are definitely there, as is the yeast.

t - Tastes of strawberries, bready malts, Belgian yeast, and citrus hops. Strawberry and yeast dominate again, but the citrus fruit is nice too. A step up from the nose.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

o - Overall a pretty good beer and I imagine this is exactly what they were looking to make. Some nice strawberry and yeast in the nose and mouth, and very easy to drink. Would have it again.

From tap to chalice at Mad Fox on 7/12/11
*From notes

A: One of the prettiest beers I've seen tapped. It's completely unfiltered, as a mix of beautiful red, ripe strawberry hue intertwines with a white peach-honey golden. Almost no head - .25 fingers and zero lacing.

S: Quite yeasty, similar to their saison. I'm not getting a lot sweetness or fruit conditioner on the nose, though there is a bit of red fruit essence that lingers in the nostrils.

T: This is what I'd call a grown-up's fruit beer. It's not cloying like a lot of over-syruped offerings. Instead, we're presented with an off-dry and only slightly fruity strawberry brew. The key here is the balance between what I assume is real strawberry and the yeasty, wheaty nature of the beer. It's not overly complex, but it's certainly more interesting then many within the "strawberry blonde" realm.

M: Surprisingly oily and thinner then I'd like for a blonde. There's no fluffiness here, and it really could use a bit more texture to bump up the complexity.

O: Mad Fox's Strawberry Blonde is certainly a passable and pretty reasonable summer beer. But by Mad Fox's standards, it's simply ok. This would be a solid transitional beer for the sweeter beer lovers out there, but certainly not something I'd have in mass quantity.

On tap at Mad Fox. Served in a wide-mouthed chalice.

Pours a pale, slightly cloudy blonde color with a good pink tint to it. Thin white head and a few spots of lacing on the way down. Hard to tell without swirling, as the glass was filled to the brim. The nose brings a bit of strawberry and its seeds along with a bit of white pepper without the spice and some light earthiness. Slight phenolic character there that also seeps into the flavor. Strawberry is there along with some light Belgian yeast. Light body with crisp carbonation; very, very refreshing. Well done, though perhaps fermented too high, as there was a bit of a phenol character throughout, though it was slight.
