Draft at The Boilermaker in Philadelphia, PA.

Pours a dark chocolate brown color with a one finger yellowish beige head that quickly settles into a thin lasting ring.  Minimal spots of lace left behind.

Slightly funky, floral aroma with sweet and roasted dark malt notes.  There's a lot going on so the funky yeast gets a bit overpowered.  Strong malt presence with rye, chocolate, toffee and caramel.  Underneath, there's some bready yeast and faint spices.  Floral but not too much so because the malt character is so strong.

On the thinner end of medium bodied with lots of peppery spice that wasn't evident in the nose.  Lots of clove, pepper and rye followed by malt swetness and funky yeast.  Very heavily spiced(too much so) and over carbonated with spices taking away from the funky yeast and sweeter flavors.  Really powerful rye flavor that's not just sweet but completely overpowering.  Underneath here is some caramel malt, chocolate and toffee but the rye and spice flavors are too much.

poured from keg tap at the Cask, Pimlico, into a UK half pint semi-goblet, Feb '12.

Pours a hazy mid to dark brown hue with a half finger of beige/off-white head.

The aroma is all about the yeast, bread, a little spice and background whiff of dried fruit.

Taste wise, pretty much marries the aroma, add to this earth, duck pond (yes - I have tasted one - not by choice!!!) and a little chocolate bringing up the rear!

The mouthfeel made this beer for me, not too much carbonation, medium to full in body with a great velvety/creamy sweet and sour aftertaste!

A beer I would happily re-visit!

On tap at Bierkraft.. Saison, eh? Well, it sure doesn't look like it. Pours dark brown with some ruby edging and a powerful demanding head. Lace is undeniable, the head everlasting.
Aromas of dates and delicate spices, chocolate. A pretty enchanting aroma.
The flavor is similar, not very sweet, but notes of chocolate and dates along with some phenolic yeast, pear? Very good, quite drinkable, surprisingly dry for all of the dubbel-like characteristics involved. High carbonation keeps the palate clean but makes it difficult to pick apart some of those delicate flavors.
I like the dark saison style as it has plenty of room to be explored, this one maps itself out nicely.
