Notes: The dream of the 90’s is alive in Decorah. Time to pre-heat your oven for bagel-sized pizzas and pull out your jazziest cups, the 90’s are back and fresher than ever. Our S’mores version of Fresh Batch stokes the fire with notes of toasted marshmallow and melted milk chocolate squished between graham crackers. TGIFB.

16oz can. Poured out an opaque, oil-black color with a fairly small, light brown head of foam. It left minimal lacing on the glass. It smelled of chocolate, vanilla, marshmallow and graham crackers. Very sweet chocolate, marshmallow, toffee and vanilla flavors.

This is the first Toppling Goliath brew that I haven’t liked. I understand that it’s a desert beer, but this was WAY too sweet. I bought a 4 pack and these will be given away, or dumped down the sink.

Holy cow, if you want a liquified dessert look no further. Looks nearly black with light mocha foam that dissipates leaving a rim around the glass and a few patches of foam. Smells like a decadent marshmallow and graham cracker dessert. Taste is a super sweet, strongly flavored marshmallow, graham cracker and chocolate. It is a bit cloying even for me, and I like sweet beers. Nevertheless it tastes really good. Extra creamy mouthfeel. Overall I dig it, but I think that it would be noticeably improved by barrel aging like in the fluffernutter variety.

Brew: Toppling Goliath Brewing Company - Fresh Batch Series - S’mores

Intro: 16 oz. poured into a tulip glass. Shared with a friend.

Appearance: Pitch black, Ample head maybe 3 inches. Moderate lacing as I drank

Smell: Chocolate, vanilla, Marshmallow, and gram crackers

Taste: Followed the smell.

Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation.

Drink: Very smooth and enjoyable.

Conclusion: Very nice, fringing on the wonderful. A pastry stout in the truest form. Do not hesitate if you find one. Pick it up and enjoy. I got a 4 pack and am truly glad I did.

Poured into a nonic.

Pours motor-oil dark, thick, and viscous. Moderate head. Solid retention. Excellent lacing.

S'mores aromas are delivered in spades. I can smell chocolate, marshmallow, graham cracker, brown sugar, molasses, and a touch of strong coffee.

Dark chocolate on the tip of the tongue swiftly gives way to fried-ice-cream and marshmallow blended with graham cracker. Coffee notes arrive in midstream, along with sweeter lighter chocolate fare. A bit of booze and baker's chocolate bitterness at the finish.

Smooth, creamy, and full bodied. Not sticky, but close. The alcohol saves it.

Pastry stouts are ordinarily a "hard pass" for me on general principles. This one is pretty darn good.

In what's meant to be a beer split equally among a medium sized village, Toppling Goliath doesn't just satisfy the sweet tooth with their Fresh Batch series, S'mores inspired stout, but rather batter it into submission.

S'mores Pastry Stout crawls out of the can and into the snifter like a marshmallowy use motor oil consistency, nearly opaque black and seeming to suck the light out of the room. As a rich chocolate meringue builds upon the rim, the overwhelming scent of chocolate, cream, graham cracker, marshmallow and sweet espresso all come to mind. An absurdly sweet taste then layers on the tongue with the dessert-like effects of a death-by-chocolate cake and alcoholic brownie batter.

This intensely sugary, creamy and plush flavor is unrelenting as the beer expands across the middle palate and saturates each and every tastebud with dessert-like consistency. As the sugars cling to the tongue, the senses keep coming back to those brownie batter flavors and feels as the ale trails into a sweet coffee, bittersweet morsel and roasted graham cracker flavor late on the palate.

Ridiculously full, lush and decadent throughout, the cloying stout wins for culinary delight but is difficult to drink as the full can is a diabetic shock in the waiting. Don't look for a dessert pairing for this beer, it replaces dessert all together.

Poured from pint can into cervoise.
A: Pours a dark black with 1/4 inch dark tan head.
S: Smooth milk chocolate, toasted marshmallows, and graham cracker. Definitely s’mores!
T: Follows aroma perfectly and with a bit more intensity and depth.
M: Medium body. Darkly sweet and super smooth feel. Lingers nicely on the palate.
D: Wow, this is dangerous stuff. Drinkable alcoholic s’mores. It is quite sweet, so best to share a can.

It is very sweet, but that’s to be expected from a pastry stout.
Thick dark appearance and very thick, smooth feel. Smell is graham cracker more than anything else. Taste is strong, sweet. Very rich. Definitely could not drink more than one. Or maybe more than half of one.
