A 500ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2013. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. Hopped with variety Ella (previously known as Stella).
Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A hazy sunset-amber hue with medium carbonation; the yeast sediment percolates through the liquid like smoke. Produces a huge head of creamy white foam with good stability - this slowly reduces to a surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of intense juicy fruits: mango, passionfruit, pineapple, white grape and citrus. Underpinned by subtle caramel malt and earthy yeast. Superb.
Tastes of seriously fruity hops with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, passionfruit, pineapple, orange peel, white grape, citrus, caramel malt, earthy yeast and stewed hops. Highly attenuated, followed by a powerful, spicy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly - tangy hop oils stimulate the palate. Good body but rather lacklustre carbonation. Pretty astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of fruity aromatic hops, bitterness and earthy yeast.
Great stuff - another quality offering from Kernel. Looks good, with an amazingly fruity aroma and flavour. Ella knows how to seduce your tastebuds. Decent body, though enhanced carbonation would have added more texture. Simply delicious, and well worth sampling if you have the chance.
