Mosaic hops add an almost spicy bite to an already bright, heavily carbonated session stout. The mix is well balanced, but gives more the impression of a black IPA. Light in body. Rocky, tan head. Almost harshly bitter aftertaste. A strange mix

33cl bottle served in a tulip. Bottled on 16.12.16; Best before 16.12.17 printed on the back label. Pours one shade shy of black with a quarter inch, khaki-colored head embedded with pinpricks and ringlets. Nose reveals roast and earthy notes. taste consistent with nose - hops really dominate the profile. Mouthfeel is light in body with a smooth, even carbonation. Overall, a decent beer but not a goto style for me.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2017 (bottled Dec 2016). ABV is stated as 4.5%. Purchased a little while back from Trembling Madness in York.
A: Poured into a tulip. Bottle conditioned. A very dark brown hue that appears pitch black in the glass. Yields a decent head of creamy light brown foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a thick surface layer. Some lacing.
S: Aroma of powerful roasted malt with notes of burnt grain, carbonised toast, coffee, bitter chocolate, subtle molasses, ale yeast, husks and faint aromatic hop overtones. The mosaic isn't making a big impression, but very nice nonetheless.
T: Tastes of intense roasted malt with notes of burnt grain, carbon, coffee, bitter cocoa, faint molasses, ale yeast, subtle leafiness and a whisper of aroma hops. A strident malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly astringent, with soft carbonation and good body for the strength. Must be the oats in the recipe. Aftertaste of seriously bitter dark malt, roasted grain and coffee.
O: Very nice - a lower strength stout with the flavour profile of a bigger beer. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are all about the roasted malt and yeast. Subtle hop overtones can be discerned but don't make much headway against the malt. Good body; thicker than one might expect. All that said, it does possess a slight thinness that manifests in the flavour but probably can't be avoided. Nonetheless, a top-notch effort from Kernel as always. Well worth seeking out.

On tap at bar maquila. With ox stew with imperial stout. A Dry stout very far from Guinness, with its nasty bitterness replaced with a much subtler one and and much better and soft nose

Bottled
so full on blacker than black body with tobacco stain coloured head that is microscopic bubbled
and starts an impressive 3/4 cm then reduces to surface but almost covers that surface
The aroma is dominated by the Mosaic hop minty, menthol with hints of treacle.
The flavour is like I imagine aniseed jam on burned toast would be like
I found it slightly, just slightly thin
curious stuff, certainly well made but would I drink again? Not sure.
