L- Superficially black, in fact like many beers that look this way with a halogen torch shining through the beer is ultra-deep ruby red. Pours with some fine sediment (it's bottle conditioned) and a 1Cm mid-tan head. ps Head holds well.
S- Roasty-toasty as one might expect but then... plus some citrus... grapefruit?
T- The smell reads across into the taste very closely, deep roast, hints of heavy smoke, dry light citrus hops leave a dry brushing over the palate.
F- The pungency perhaps makes this feel a bit heavier than it's 4.7%. The odd thing is isn't notably refreshing (from the hops) nor fulfilling from the roast yet lighter ABV%.
O- Certainly different but perhaps the concept of say a very citrus-hopped pale ale note morphed into a pungent tasting yet only 4.7% stout is being a bit too ambitious?
Bought from Real Ale, London W11 330ml bottle BB: 23/09/2021 £3.00
