Copenhagen 20/4 2024. 33 cl bottle from Kihoskh, Sønder Boulevard, Kbh. V. Kernels usual rough paper design.

Pours opaque dark brown with a big off-white head. Settles as 0,1 cm thick unbroken layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.

Aroma is medium intense with a pleasant sweet malty odor with a light touch of roast. Dark roasted malts. Caramel, toffee and brown sugar.

Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, soft, silken, creamy, lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is medium intense with a rather strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a bitter undertone. Lingers for a while. Finish is semi-dry.

Pleasant, smooth and pretty light.

Very dark and clear.

Smell is smooth roast, slight lager aroma.

Taste is the same.

Smooth feel. Maybe a bit too smooth overall, not quite enough character.

330 ml bottle. ABV is 7.1%. Black colour, moderate tan head. Pleasant aroma of dark malts, mild coffee, chocolate and prunes, a hint of liquorice. Fairly smooth mouthfeel, relatively light bodied for its strength. Flavour of roast malts and strong coffee, hints of dark bitter chocolate, liquorice and prunes, distinct bittering hops in the finish.

De 32gp. Con caña de lomo de Mercadona. En copa Teku. Más que una baltic Porter resulta una black IPA, y muy buena como no podía ser de otra manera viniendo de kernel. De 32gp. 330ml bottle conditioned. 7.1% ABV.
L: Jet black with 1cm of mocha head that reduces eventually to a 2mm smear.
S: Roasted coffee beans with an edge of 70% cocoa.
T: Charred, chocolate malt plus juicy black cherry. Very bitter.
F: Full body. Smooth mouthfeel despite the very high bitterness.
O: Difficult to tell whether the burn is from the hops or the alcohol. That said, there’s sufficient smooth chocolate and a fruity edge to prevent it from becoming arid. A complex, extra dry, sipper.

Purchased at the Kernel Brewery in London recently; bottle-conditioned in a 500ml brown bottle, BB 01/03/2012, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: pours a very dark brown body with noticeable ruby glows when seen against light, topped with a thick, well-lasting frothy light-tan head; carbonation remains light as far as my eyes can manage.
S: the aroma is pleasantly roasted & lightly chocolaty, mildly sour-fruity, with a touch of mashed red beans and yeastiness in the form of must... quite subdued overall but still reminiscent of a porter due to the edge of sourness. A good swirl brings out more chocolaty elements, plus vanilla, sticky sugar/caramel and a touch of Goldings-like citric fruitiness.
T: mildly effervescent, the foretaste is pleasantly sour-fruity, semi-chocolaty and interestingly chilli-ish spicy(?!) as well; the light-bodied mid-taste carries on with the bitter chocolaty & roasty theme, echoed by a rich palate of deep roastiness or charred wood. The aftertaste comes rather light on the palate, laced with good hop undertones joined forces by more chocolaty aroma, lingering spicy/herbal bitterness and a different type of bitterness from roasted malts. To my liking, besides being a little yeasty, it's also pretty chewy and semi-dry in the end, not sweet or sour at all, and certainly not alcoholic.
M&D: the carbonation all in all is very well tuned, soft but still refreshing, while the body comes pretty light for a 7.3%abv. strong dark ale. Regardless of the style, I find it rather enjoyable due to the unexpected flavour profile and a dry/bitter finish. A very easy-drinking strong porter this is.

The colour is a pleasant dark brown with off-white minimal creamy head.

Smell is sweet but some herbal fresh hoppiness to balance.

The sweet is similar with chocolsate maltiness on the pleasant side.

Mouthfeel is good but something is missing...
Will revisit soon

Black pour with light coming in around the edges when held up. dense, creamy, root beer head that pops up in the center and has lasted until the very end and left some great lacing.
Smells a bit of chocolate but mostly of roasty malts with a bit of coffee as well. The taste is much of the same but more pronounced than the aroma would have indicated. More coffee towards the end and a hint of vanilla throughout. Very robust and EXTREMELY smooth, absolutely perfect carbonation. Roasted coffee slightly bitter flavors towards the end but nothing that lasts and left the palate surprisingly clean. Such a nice beer and the best I have had from this fairly new London Brewery.
