Copenhagen 12/2 2022. 37,5 cl bottle from Høkeren, Ravnsborggade, Kbh. N. Drawing of some monks picking apples on the label.
Pours murky burgundy with a small, bubbly white head. Disappears almost immediately leaving a thin rim of foam running along the side of the glass. No lacing.
Aroma is fairly intense with a sweet fermented odor mingling with tart and sour notes. Peach and cherries. Marzipan.Tart berries, citrus and vinegar. Touch of oak and white wine.
Low carbonation. Thin, oily, soft, almost flat texture.
Flavor is intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a stronger sourness. Aftertaste is sour with a sugary undertone. Lingers for a bit. Finish is fairly dry.
A fairly sour, flavored lambic-style beer balancing the sugary and the immensely sour.

375 ml green bottle, vintage 2016. ABV is 6.0%. Hazy red colour, hardly any head. Aroma of sour cherries and oak. Very moderate carbonation, but not completely flat. Slightly dry and tart flavour of sour cherries and oak, moderately astringent.

Loverbeer “Saison De L’Ouvrier Griotta”
€6 / ,25l on tap @ Archea Brewery, Firenze, IT
Look: Hazy and pink-amber-ruby in color beneath a thin head of bright white that dissipates immediately. No lacing is left behind, but this is fairly common with sour beers.
Smell: Brettanomyces “horseblanket”, oak, and background fruit.
Taste: Only moderately tart with vinous notes of raspberry, currant, funkiness, oak, cherry, lemon, and almond. The finish is fairly mild, but still acidic and dry with a short lingering fruitiness that fades to reveal the almond which lingers a little longer.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light in body, and acidic and crisp before warming to become smoother.
Overall: This wild farmhouse ale is fairly pricey due to the addition of the Griotta cherries, 5 to 6 months of aging in oak barrels, and limited production (@2,000 liters), yet I’d say it’s completely worth it.

On tap. Hazy purple color with pinkish head. Aroma head damp cellar, old wood barrel, some sweetish spoiled cherries. Taste has bitter wood notes, funky barnyard flavors, damp cellar, tart cherries on the finish with a nice cherry pit bitterness. Light to medium body, low carbonation. A really rustic fruit sour with intense wood notes.

On draft at Enoteca d’Asti, Dublin
Luminous magenta with no head. 3.75
Welch’s cherry soda with a tang of Balsamic. 3.5
Wood, cherry, mild lactic, pomegranate, and herbal hints. 3.75
Plum pop at the end and tannic stone finish.
Fizzy, crisp, light. 4
“Cherry Saison”
Not much to say: lactic is there with a cherry on top. Easy and balanced. But with little citrus and no phenols, how is this a saison? 3.75
