Had Rachel pick up me some random beer at Trader Joe’s. Not a big fan of most of the Mike Hess beers, but I’ll keep trying them. The description on Untappd read, “Shelter in Place while sipping on our newest creation, Pershing Pils, a crushable lager named for Pershing Ave, which was named as a tribute to WWI 5-star General John Pershing and all San Diegans who gave their lives during that war. Pershing Ave served as the water pathway bringing water to the lemon-grove that became known as Hartley's North Park. Now, we aim to slake your thirst with this authentic lager.”
Poured a medium yellow clear color with two fingers of off-white head. Could see some bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass, but not as much as I would expect from a pilsner. Very good lacing. Bad retention. (Sight - 3.50)
Smelled sweet grain, honey, earthy pilsner malt, Noble hops, Cheerios and biscuit. About the same from the can with grain and pilsner malt leading the way. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted about as good as the nose, but some different characteristics. Got better as it went down. In order got sweet grain, earthy pilsner malt, Noble hops, lingering peppery spice on my lips, biscuit, Cheerios and hints of honey. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.75)
Overall this was a very good pilsner. Glad I got a can. (Overall - 3.75)
