Not a Mike Hess fan (the beer, not the man), but did like the last Solis version I tried, giving #64 a 3.92 in March. Looked at the back of the can of this one on a recent trip to Trader Joe’s and liked what I saw when I looked it up. The website read, “A collaboration with Intergalactic Brewing Company with Amarillo, Idaho 7, and Motueka!” Like Amarillo, still new to Motueka and don’t really like Idaho 7, but still wanted to give it a shot.
Poured a golden mostly clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of off-white frothy head. Slow-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Good spotty lacing. Decent retention. (Sight - 3.50)
Thought I wasn’t that familiar with Motueka, then I smelled this beer. Got Motueka, caramel candy square and toffee. Not a lot else surprisingly. From the can got some spice as well. (Smell - 3.50)
Taste followed the nose for the most part. Got Motueka, caramel candy squares, toffee, unknown spice (Amarillo is spicy to me sometimes) and bitter woody malts (almost Nugget). So malty. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Malty finish. (Feel - 4.00)
A very interesting beer to say the least. Motueka dominated with those caramel candy squares coming in (which I like). I’d probably have this again on purpose. (Overall - 3.75)
