Solis (Sunset/West Coast) is our dynamic IPA brand—every batch is a unique San Diego-style IPA—always 7.5% ABV, hop-forward, bone-dry, light-colored and sure to satisfy craft fans and hop heads. Masterfully combining 2-row and other malts, along with new hops or unique hop combinations, Solis allows us to keep our creative juices flowing and your mouth watering. Make sure you ask your server which batch they are serving and try them all! Can drinkers—look on the bottom of your can for a package date and batch number.
Batch 86: A collaboration with La Bella Pizza. 2-row and pilsner malts. Kettle hops include Lemon Drop and Mosaic. We finished it of with Lemon Drop, Mosaic, and Bavaria hops in the whirlpool and dry hop.

Originally didn’t care for Mike Hess (the brewery, not the man), but coming around more lately. Specifically this Solis series where they rotate the hops, mainly collaborations with other brewers. This one was described online as, “A collaboration with La Bella Pizza. 2-row and pilsner malts. Kettle hops include Lemon Drop and Mosaic. We finished it off with Lemon Drop, Mosaic, and Bavaria hops in the whirlpool and dry hop.” Was looking forward to it.
Poured a golden clear color (gold) with one finger of off-white frothy head. Could see just a few bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. Very good spotty lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled that Lemon Drop right way. Also the Mandarina Bavaria, and tangerine, mandarin orange, peach, apricot, pear, red apple, cough drop, eucalyptus, floral and Mosaic. More of the hops from the can, while getting some earthy, grainy pilsner malt. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted similar to the nose, maybe not quite as good. Got Lemon Drop, tangerine, peach, apricot, Mandarina Bavaria, cough drop, eucalyptus, red apple, floral, Mosaic, mango, pine and stone fruit. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Bitter finish. (Feel - 4.00)
A pretty good IPA. Turns out it was my third-favorite Solis variant out of seven. (Overall - 3.75)
