A: Light tan pillowy head is two fingers high with a spongey bubbly surface. Ice-tea color on the pour sits a flat reddish tea color in the vessel. Small indications of carbonation.

S: Smells of cherry malt, fruitiness of apples, and cranberries. Fresh yeastiness, dough and sweet vienna notes. Some berry fruitiness and fresh herbal background notes of dry tea leaves. Relaxing.

T: Flavor of fresh vienna-apple malt fruitiness, fresh yeastiness along with cranberries. Background of herbal hops with a fade of dry tea leaves, chamomile and fresh cedar. Toasty malt caramel.

M: Medium body, soft and creamy feel, dry with a toasted feel. Easy carbonation if any, relaxing hold.

O: A very smooth drinking experience, clean malt profile, fruity, with a toasty sweet caramel backbone. Lightly dry tea dryness on the finish.

Frederic Robinson Ltd. "Trooper Day Of The Dead"
16.9 oz. brown glass bottle coded "L2157 20:24", and sampled on 9 December 2022
$6.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a clear deep amber colored body beneath a short head of antique-white foam. The aroma offers a beautiful combination of lightly sweet and caramelish malt, flowers, orchard fruits, and crushed granite. It's clean and fresh and welcoming. Unsurprisingly the flavor follows the aroma. The malt retains it's golden and median caramel character but it's also biscuity, grainy, and nutty. A touch of underlying diacetyl also gives it a hint of toffee. The hops remain floral (Asiatic lilly, roses) but also deliver some spiciness, grassiness, and a bit of leafiness. The yeasty fruitiness reminds me of fallen apples as well as fresh but not too juicy-sweet apples (maybe Rome or Winesap), pear, strawberry, and Bergamot. The bitterness is median-firm and perfectly balancing, and it finishes dry with leafiness, mineral, soft earthiness, and that beautiful mix of orchard fruits lingering. In the mouth it's medium-light in body and gently crisp with a fine-bubbled, moderate carbonation. The head has held up well and the lacing that's left behind is decent as well. It's very streaky wth some tiny spots here and there. As a fan of English ales I rather enjoy this one as it's really quite complex and yet just 4.7% by volume.

Pours coppery with at least a finger of white head, soon faded out into a ring. Not much of an odor here. It has that coppery beer smell, that malty, hoppy mixture everyone probably knows so well. The taste follows. It has a slight tinge of bitterness up front, followed by an earthy, herbal flavor. It is bready with a touch of fruitiness and caramel-toffee sweetness. Would say it has a medium body with a fair amount of carbonation.

This was a 2-pack of 500mL bottles bought on sale from Jungle Jim's. It's worth noting that the BBE date says July 22. Have had this beer before, but it's been a while. Good and easy to drink.

500mL bottle coded L1209 (7/28/21-9 months ago...) poured into a three sided Bass glass at 55° Fahrenheit 4.7% per label. The beer pours bright light copper in color with very light khaki head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is mild with sweet caramel malt and floral, grassy and lemony hops. The taste is semisweet caramel malt with faded grassy, lemon hops and moderate bitterness. There's a note of cardboard beginning to creep in. The mouthfeel is thin bodied with just less that average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, ok. I would drink again if I remembered to check the date first and it was relatively fresh.

Have seen the Iron Maiden Trooper on the shelves for a long time, but never bought it. A long ass time ago, my first serious beer drinking was in English and Welsh small town pubs, so I've got a soft spot for Bitters and ESBs... but on cask, not from bottles. Anyway, it's a rainy spring day, so I'm in the mood for something English, and bought this version, 500 ml bottle...different from the Iron Maiden trooper, or not? Whatever. Poured into a Fin du Monde tulip. Pours clear, orange gold in color with an unimpressive and loosely bubbly 1 inch head. Nose: some sulfur, some toffee, lots of herbal and light floral hops, some breadiness. That's a very nice nose, actually, and it gets better the more it warms. The taste: what I thought was sulfur turns out to be a bit more mineral, the hops become a little more fruity but are still herbal, the malts are toffee, biscuit and bread crust, and there's some kind of mettalic taste at the end, too, The body is pretty light and at moments comes close to being watery, but doesn't ever fall over into that; there's a little more carbonation than I expected, and maybe a little more bitterness than I expected given the style, but not too much. Doesn't really come to a crisp or dry finish, but it isn't wet or sticky either, just kind of lingers gently....kind of an earthy beer. All in all, as an esb...i don't know. It has been too long since I've had many good ones. I think I'll say that it is a pretty good version; as it should, it packs a lot of layered and subtle flavor into a low abv, without demanding too much attention with over-the-top antics, Would be great for a long session, if one were whiling away a few hours at the pub. I'd love to try it on tap or even better, from a cask.

Great tasting Golden Ale. Pours dark clear straw with amber in it. Smell of hops. Tastes moderately bitter and bready with some floral, and fruit notes. Not too bitter thankfully. Just right for a guy who usually prefers malty beers. Plus it's Iron Maiden which is awesome. Glad they didn't cheap out and just slap their name on just any plain old cheap beer.

Pours a smaller frothy head with moderate retention, fair lacing, very clear amber to tan color

Nose herbal earthy woodsy hops, typical English bitter, herbal tea, light sweet malt, touch fruity

Taste brings more herbal tea, earthy woodsy hops, fair fruity like fruit cake, fair sweet toasted caramel like malts, touch biscuity bread, drier finish, med bitterness

Mouth is med bod, med to higher frothy carb

Overall pretty good, checks all the boxes for English bitter, not sure why some ratings are so low
