Polaris is the most recent addition to our ever growing line of single hop IPAs. This hop varietal is grown in Hull, Germany and was released to the public in 2012. Polaris is a beast of a hop with an alpha acid content that ranges from 18% – 23%! Despite its high alpha acid content, the hop grower suggests using this hop varietal for its aromatic properties.
Polaris is an interesting IPA. Its aroma is very earthy and has strong garlic/chive/onion qualities that are carried over into its flavor. The finish also has robust resinous character as well.

Deep amber, opaque, decent head with nice lacing. Smell is dirt and English Christmas cake, dense and a bit rum-y. More carbonation on the front then I expected, ending light and not very full. Taste is all raisin to me, with a bit of bitter on the roof of my mouth, but too sweet for my liking. Heavy taste is not held up well by the mouthfeel and I find this a rather plodding beer, though my husband liked it well enough.
