JANUARY 2025.
Expired 08/31/2023.
Historic Italian brewery, specialized in Belgian styles.
This was one of the beers that contributed to Schigi (Master Brewer Luigi D'amelio) winning the Brewer of the Year award in 2013, along with the wonderful WALLONIE (Saison with Saaz hops), the QUADRUPEL, etc..
This is a 33 cl Vintage 2013 bottle (at the time, it cost about €5...).
On the label: "Lot 235 13 - Best before: 08/31/2023"
It is an Oud Bruin style beer aged 20 months in barrels that had previously hosted red wine.
Only a thousand bottles produced.
Brown. No foam. 6%
On the nose, vinegar, red fruit and ash in the background
No body...no carbonation.
In the mouth, slightly liqueur and woody notes, then licorice emerges which is the main scent that I detect, together with red fruit in alcohol.
Sweet and alcoholic hints that recall Marsala wine, with these flavors that recall candied fruit and red fruits (cherry, black cherry) in alcohol.
The acidic note is light and fast, like all beer that has lost a little (a lot) of its body and with this also a little (a lot) of its complexity.
Soft finish, with a slightly dried tongue.
After a while from drinking in the mouth there remains a soft sensation that reminds me of chestnut and a more sour one of bark and still candied notes.
10% imperceptible.
Young it was another thing, much more complex and rich in aromatic fans different from those I found drinking it so much aged.

Blood red color.
Acetic smell, with wood, red fruitiness. Interesting, and challenging.
At the taste the notes of the style, red fruit, wood, again acetic notes.
The alcohol is absolutely well hidden.
Experimental and interesting beer.
To try again (in a precedent taste, it was more intense in the taste).
