Brewed by Brouwerij West, Brilliant but Lazy is a Petit Saison. This beer makes two of ten in celebration of the anniversary of the start of my beer posts.

The aroma of wheat, Brettanomyces yeast, and Saison are smelled as you drink. The barley, Skagit valley barley, is raw and wonderful - an unfamiliar flavor from my experience. It's discernible due to the new experience. Wakatu hops broadens the barley and compliments the Saison. The beer has an earthy texture and felt in the slightly dry finish.

Wheat grabs hold of your tongue and dominates the flavor. Saison follows suit and smoothens the drink. Alcohol content is very light at 4%, but the beer is lighter than air and yields the flavor of the alcohol with the Saison.

The citrus bite of lemon is tasted right when you swallow. It wanes as the finish commences. The Brettanomyces yeast is noted from beginning to end, but its spicy character adds to this venture.

Brilliant but Lazy is what its name implies. An easy, drinkable wheat and Saison body is what makes it lazy. The complexion of lemon and Brettanomyces elaborates why this beer is brilliant. An extraordinary beer, I am very happy with the new place I acquire my beer: Gerrards Market and their Beer Cave. If you find Brilliant but Lazy, do not pass this up. This beer will end up on those lists that are "beer bucket lists."

Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer.

On tap at Brew At The Zoo held at the Los Angles Zoo in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours an opaque dark orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, fruit, earth, and Brett aromas. Taste is much the same with fruit, earth, and Brett flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of Brett bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with nice fruit and Brett qualities all around.

Straw yellow with plenty of white foam.

Not much.

Also not much. Not getting the hops, malt or yeast. Just bubbles and water. Bad bottle, maybe?

Highly carbonated, not out of style though.
