BIG. HOPPY. RED. Irish beer gone incognito! Our IRA has a beautiful burnt orange/red color with the unmistakable aroma and flavor of American hops. This beer is brewed to be dry with full flavor of Nugget, Apollo & Cascade dry hopping. With over two pounds of hops per barrel (that's a lot) its like no beer ever brewed in Erie.

Had it poured into a snifter at the brewery. Nice looking beer with a rich, dark reddish brown color and good head and lacing. Wonderfully smooth with a warm caramel taste and a bit of hot spice. Very nice red ale.

A: [3.50] Copper to red in color. The beer is not clear and looks slightly cloudy. (it is unfiltered). Produced a bubbly head. The bubbles were large and irregular. The bottle lists the ABV 8.2%. There is no evident dating.
S: [3.50] Nice floral and piney hop nose.
T: [3.75] Bready maltiness up front. The midpalate is a nice bitter piney hop flavor. The finish is dry almost astringent. The bitterness lingers on the palate.
M: [3.50] The carbonation is smooth. The main mouthfeel is the linger hop bitterness at the end.
O: [3.50] The don't list the IBU but I bet it is pretty high. This is not a hop bomb - but hops is the main characteristic. There is something sweet in there also which really helps with the balance. Overall this is an enjoyable beer. I am not sure how fresh it is - but I want to get some more beers from Lavery.

Lavery's Imperial Red Ale has gone through minor changes over the years, but all for the better. They have really perfected the recipe. A hoppy/malty flavor bomb that will satisfy the taste buds.
On tap or in 22 oz bomber bottles, this is one of my all time favorites.
