on tap at devils den - served in pint glass
Pours an opaque blackness with a thick, bubbly darkly tanned head resting on top. Retains really nicely, adding a level of creaminess with patchy lacing strewn about the glass.
Nice mix of roasted dark malts, chocolate and oaky bourbon with a hint of smoke. The barrel character is soft-spoken but apparent, with light sweetness and vanilla.
Roasty and lightly sweet up front with plenty of dark malts and a touch of chocolate. Nutty with toasted coffee notes and some bourbon barrel character. Hints of vanilla, oak and faint smoke underneath the malty sweetness. Finishes a bit warm and robust.
Fuller medium body, decent carbonation, creamy and chewy on the tongue. Fairly solid, drinkable barrel aged porter without a particularly aggressive alcohol component in the profile. I've only had a couple beers from Lavery but most have been well done so far.

In the taste, when cold, the roasted malts still stick out, with some coffee, charcoal, tobacco, and licorice notes. The barrel aging becomes apparent soon, with loads of spicy bourbon, oak, vanilla, and sherry flavors. A nice integration of barrel flavor, bourbon, coffee and alittle booze. Really opens up as time goes by, bourbon/whiskey with a small bite. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, smooth, creamy and medium level of carbonation. Overall, this is a very tasty beverage that highlights what proper barrel aging can add to a brew. This was a nice example, Lavery knows whats up.
